MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — One of the state’s top girls basketball programs will soon be under new leadership. Marty Vierheller stepped down Saturday as the leader of the Crusaderettes. Vierheller has been a head coach for 18 seasons and has coached in the PCHS program for 30 years.
Vierheller led Parkersburg Catholic to the Class AA state championship in 2022 with a 24-0 record. In 2020, the Crusaderettes brought a perfect record to the state tournament and advanced to the state semifinals before the remainder of the tournament was cancelled by the pandemic.
PCHS continued their winning streak into the following season and extended the mark to 44 games before they were defeated in the 2021 Class AA state championship game.
The Crusaderettes posted a 15-9 record in the 2023-2024 season.
Programming note: Vierheller will be a guest on the MetroNews Citynet Statewide Sportsline Sunday evening.
