For those who’ve been wondering about the Master’s identity in The Acolyte, Tuesday’s episode offered much-needed relief.
Picking up where we left off last week, Mae’s dark-sided leader cut down several Jedi and injured Yord before Osha intervened. The Master then went after Osha, but was cut off by Sol, who he immediately recognized. Interestingly enough, Sol had sensed something familiar about him.
While they braced for a one-on-one duel, Sol’s cohorts Yord, Osha and Bazil rushed back to the ship. Sol demanded the Master show his face and the latter refused because he’d worn that mask to protect his thoughts.
Back at Kelnacca’s home, Mae retrieved the dead Wookiee’s lightsaber and ran, crashing right into Jecki on the way out. Jecki tried to arrest Mae but only secured one handcuff. When she finally locked in the other, she was interrupted by the Master, who noted that Mae could learn a thing or two about loyalty from the feisty padawan.
As Jecki fought the red lightsaber-wielding figure, Mae used the distraction to escape. To Jeckie’s credit, the padawan held her own with two lightsabers — hers and Kelnacca’s. But the Master gained the upper hand by destroying one of her weapons and vanished to chase after his rogue pupil. He almost killed Mae, only to be interrupted by Sol and Jecki. The fight continued, and it wasn’t long before Jecki sliced off the Master’s helmet and received two death blows to the chest in kind.
Her body fell to the ground, and the Master’s identity was finally revealed: Qimir. (Note: Did you guess correctly?)
Qimir held Mae hostage, and that’s when Sol asked, “What are you?”
Qimir said he didn’t have a name but that the Jedi might call him Sith. (Note: For now, we’re using his trader alias.) As for his desires, he simply wanted to wield his powers without Jedi oversight and take a pupil, aka an Acolyte. But after Mae balked on their deal and exposed him, he was now determined to kill every last one of them.
Yord rejoined the fight and recognized Qimir before he, too, was murdered. Plus, Mae again tried to run away but was stopped by Osha, who didn’t hesitate to fire her blaster this time. To be fair, though, it wasn’t set to kill.
Sol went for a fatal strike with Qimir and halted when Osha called out to him. Qimir then said something peculiar: “I’ve accepted my darkness. What have you done with yours?”
The question resonated with Sol, who looked horrified as he backed away and reminded his foe that the Jedi do not attack the unharmed. That bought Osha time to attach Pip to Qimir’s back. With the tiny droid emitting a bright light, a swarm of umbramoths descended upon the Sith and swept him up to the sky.
In the aftermath, Osha questioned Sol about Qimir’s implication that she couldn’t trust him. Before he could explain, Mae stunned him with the blaster so she could chat with her sister alone.
In their standoff, Osha called the Jedi her family while Mae viewed them as invaders. Mae believed the Jedi brainwashed her sister and vowed to restore her. They embraced, and Osha took that opportunity to arrest her twin. Mae countered, though, using the Force to knock Osha unconscious before cutting her locs with a lightsaber to match her sibling’s.
Sol eventually came to, with Osha — or perhaps Mae in disguise — relaying that Mae had left. Qimir, meanwhile, went back for his helmet after slaying the umbramoths and found an unconscious “Mae,” who was most likely Osha. So, how long before Sol or Qimir realize they’ve been Parent Trapped?
Thoughts on this week’s The Acolyte? Were you surprised by that reveal?
Damn, Jecki was the coolest character on the show by a mile.
I was wondering where she was during the big fight at the beginning and then when they showed her again, I thought maybe she actually stood a chance…. :(
Looking forward to it.
Best. Episode. Yet! My God, that was an insane! The fight choreography and the reveal was done perfectly. Manny Jacinto was incredible! I can’t wait for next week!
He’s true to the SIth ways:
Always being right under everyone’s nose.
I’m sad Jecki died :(
I think pretty much everyone on the Internet picked the Qmir was the Master. Having said that between the Epic lightsaber battles and the way the episode flowed this was the best episode yet.
Quite possibly the best live action Star Wars episode to date. Certainly my favorite. Every actor and storyline delivered, Manny Jacinto in particular. SO intrigued to see how this all turns out and to learn exactly what the secret Sol is hiding might be.
I’m fairly sure Qimir knows he found Osha and not Mae. He is much more interested by Osha, as she’s already left the Jedi before and therefore have conflict within her he can exploit, she seems more powerful than she knows, and he feels like she will be more obedient than Mae.
I assume it won’t take long for Sol to realize his Osha is actually Mae, as he is supposedly able to read thoughts.
She might be able to block that with her own skills but she can’t hide her smell from Bazil…
Am I the only one confused with this episode? Maybe it will get cleared up later or maybe I missed something. Osha stunned Mae but went and stopped Sol from killing the Sith. How did Mae end up with the stun blaster? She wasn’t stunned for very long but Sol was out long enough for them to chat and fight and change clothes. Liking the show but for some reason this part made me feel like I missed something.
The stun gun was grabbed by Mae with the force right before Sol was stunned.
after the slow burn, the reveal….
now where the fun begins….
With his comfort in the swamp-like environment similar to Jacksonville Florida, I thought for sure the master going to be Blake Bortles.
Guess Jason Mendoza was close enough…
Darth Bortles!!
The unmasking was too soon and pretty obvious.
so called ‘fans’ been ranting about it taking too long, now it all too soon???
Right? It seems like someone that thought it was “pretty obvious” would also then not want to see it dragged out. Had they not done it, it probably would have been, “Come on, we all know who it is, just unmask already” as a comment.
No, no. Real fans aren’t buying this fan fic tripe.
Yes, yes we are.
Your answer admits that it’s fan fic tripe.
Epic, wanna see osha train with the sith
So, I’m supposed to believe that one self-trained “sith”, can beat a Wookie Jedi Master, and then turn around and beat a whole squad of Jedi consisting of another Master, several full Knights, and a few Padawans; all who have been trained since maybe the age of 4, by other Knights and Masters fully skilled in the Force.
That’s like saying I’m just going to start watching MMA training on YouTube and in a few years take out the entire UFC in one big brawl.
Not going to happen. Completely unrealistic.
And its like the Jedi completely forgot they had the force. When their lightsabers fritzed out they just stood there looking at each other. None of them thought to force throw some rocks, do a force shove, or pull down some tree limbs on Qimir’s head. Just watch the other Jedi fight and die…
[COMMENT REMOVED DUE TO SYSTEM-DETECTED USE OF MULTIPLE USER NAMES]
Just another example of the hubris of the Jedi. Even after this, they never do learn, which is what made Order 66 possible.
As a true Star Wars fan, Class of 77, I, of course, hate this show. Sure the revelation that The Stranger was exactly who everyone thought it would be only deepens the mystery behind them. (They’re pretty clearly the apprentice, but who is the master? I mean, besides Sho’Nuff.) And the idea of Mae and Osha switching places is an interesting turn of events that should lead the series down an interesting path. I’m also wondering who the coven was, and what really happened on Brendok.
.
Oh, yeah. The fight choreography this episode was the best since Revenge of the Sith. And Manny Jacinto was genuinely creepy once he was unmasked. I fully expect he’ll get a Performer of the Week mention, at the very least. I’m really looking forward to next week on this show I clearly hate.
It was so obvious but at least they got it out of the way.
I was sorry to see Jecki go.
I’ll miss Jecki and Yord. Even though I (like so many others) had guessed that Qimir was the master, the reveal was still well done. The fight was even better. Manny Jacinto did not come to play! All of the actors did a great job. I love Lee Jeung-jae as Sol. His face is so expressive. You can tell that he carries some guilt, but that he also truly cares for his charges and even Mae. I think he doesn’t realize the twin switch because of his grief over losing so many Jedi, in particular Jecki. Whatever memories Qimir dragged up will probably cloud Sol for a while, too. He’ll get there eventually.
