Welcome back to Beyond the prompt, our blog series focused on actionable tips to get the most out of Gemini for Google Workspace.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners wear many hats and often have to bounce between dozens of tasks each day — writing marketing copy, making sales pitches, directly responding to customer inquiries, and so much more.

Before generative AI, entrepreneurs had to get comfortable with trying their best to do it all, but today, by collaborating with Gemini for Google Workspace, they can tap a real-time AI assistant  as their thought partner, creative brainstorming outlet, and productivity multiplier.

Let’s explore just one way they could use Gemini for Workspace to speed up their research as their business grows.

How to conduct competitive analysis research using Gemini for Workspace

Imagine the following scenario: You’re a founder of a startup, and your online business is gaining traction. You've always dreamed of opening a brick-and-mortar store, and now might be the perfect time. You want a thought partner to help you better understand the current landscape. You open gemini.google.com, and you type:

I am a founder of a startup. I am considering opening a brick-and-mortar store. Conduct an analysis into the competitive landscape focusing on [focus area]. Provide the strengths and weaknesses of [key competitors] in this area, including their specific strategies, tactics, and results. Identify actionable insights and recommendations for how [my company] can improve its approach and gain a competitive advantage.

You continue your conversation by answering Gemini’s questions based on your specific ideas. As you build on your original prompt, you want to go deeper in your brainstorming around two competitors in particular. You type:

Generate a competitive analysis of [company] versus [competitor] within the current market landscape.

You export your findings to a new Google Doc (click Share & export beneath Gemini’s response and then select Export to Docs), and get started on your business plan to pitch to investors before moving on to your next task of the day.

As always, remember to review all outputs from Gemini for Workspace to ensure relevancy, accuracy, and clarity. Generative AI is meant to help humans, but the final output is yours.
