Asheville is known for both its beautiful, scenic environment as well as its vibrant craft beer scene.

Asheville GreenWorks' Hoppy Waters Wednesday program allows people to enjoy both.

"The impetus to have a regular meeting of streamkeepers," said Philip Brocklyn, with Asheville GreenWorks. "This is the trash that gets into the streams mainly from stormwater runoff. We have to keep up with it."

Once a week, volunteers meet at a local waterway.

"For those of us who are able to get out here and do this kind of work, it's really fulfilling," said volunteer Asher McKinney-Ring.

"I think that local environmental impact is important, and you see that here directly," added another volunteer, Sal.

After a couple hours of cleanup, the workers head to a local brewery for socializing.

"It's a good ending to the day because we get to talk over what we did. It's the reward after hard work," Brocklyn said.

The Hoppy Waters Wednesday volunteers meet at a different cleanup site and brewery each week.
