Although the Middle East sits on the Asian continent, it is more akin to its neighbor to the west – Africa. And, while Asia is a continent of great diversity, it is not nearly as diverse as Africa.

Africa is often assumed by westerners to be a desert wasteland, but that is an incorrect assumption. The hottest temperature ever recorded was actually measured in the U.S. state of California. Africa’s diversity is found not only in its people and cultures, but also in its climate. While it does get hot in North and Central Africa, the average June temperature in Cape Town, South Africa is 13°C (55°F). Chilly, right?
