5 Westchester Dining Updates to Dig Into in August

A wine and tapas bar in Dobbs Ferry, a steakhouse in Larchmont, a Latin restaurant in Greenwich, and more make the month delicious.

Not everyone knows about โ€” but should โ€” the relatively new 30-seat inside/36-seat outside Bellacosa Wine & Tapas Bar (147 Main St, Dobbs Ferry; 914.693.6259; bellacosawinebar.com). Owner Frank Donato, who also runs the adjacent Brick Oven Pizza, offers a well-priced selection of charcuterie boards, antipasti (the ricotta cheese with tru๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝe honey, fig jam, and pistachios is stellar), a trio of salads (a citrusy fennel salad among them), five pizzas, a couple pastas, and proteins that include broiled baby lamb chops and mussels in either spicy marinara or a white wine-garlic-herbs combo. Delicious house-made bread and a nicely curated wine-and-craft-cocktail program are on offer too.

Opened in late May, Brasserie Le Steak (1957 Larchmont Ave, Larchmont; 914.834.8300; brasserielesteak.com) is in the location that was previously Le Sirene. The owner formerly had Bistro Le Steak on the UES for more than 20 years before shuttering in January 2021. Starters include garlic bread with Gorgonzola fondue, frogโ€™s legs Provenรงale, a goat cheese tartlet, and escargots. Among the mains are potato-crusted cod, teriyaki-glazed Norwegian salmon, certified-Black Angus steaks, and macadamia-nut-crusted chicken.

Expected to have opened by press time is Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichtenโ€™s Happy Monkey (376 Greenwich Ave, Greenwich; 203.405.5787; happymonkeygreenwich.com), a Latin-inspired restaurant serving dishes such as shrimp tacos topped with spicy citrus peanut slaw, arroz con pollo, and marinated whole-roasted cauliflower with sour-cherry mole and warm tortillas, plus shareable snacks, small plates, crudos, salads, and tacos. For dessert: cocoa tres leches cake, strawberry mango crisp with macadamia coconut streusel, and alternating popsicle flavors. The beverage program features a margarita menu that reflects the current season. The executive chef is Ron Gallo, who most recently served with the same title at the Inn at Pound Ridge by Jean-Georges. The restaurant space formerly housed The National, by Geoffrey Zakarian.

Bango Bowls (Larchmont, Scarsdale; bangobowls.com), which specializes in health-minded aรงai/pitaya bowls, has expanded its offerings with new salads and grain bowls, plus flatbreads and toasts.

The first county location of Shahโ€™s Halal Food (shahshalalfood.com), a chain with mostly Long Island locations, is coming to White Plains at 40 Mamaroneck Avenue, which once housed Blockheads. On the menu: gyros, falafel, basmati rice platters, baklava.
