Advancing Evidence. Improving Lives.
About us
Since 1946, the American Institutes for Research (AIR) has been advancing evidence to evolve systems, improve lives, and ultimately create a better, more equitable world. We are a nonprofit research and technical assistance institution working to solve some of the most urgent challenges in the U.S. and around the world. Our experts in education, health, workforce, human services, and international development follow the evidence to find and apply solutions that will work. Our work helps policymakers make important decisions based on evidence, and we work with leaders, organizations, and communities to create more effective programs. We never stop digging to find what works and where we have more to learn.

In collaboration with the American Society of Nephrology's Kidney Health Initiative, AIR health experts conducted interviews with kidney patients, care partners, and doctors to gauge awareness and perceptions of xenotransplantation as a treatment option.

By the end of third grade, students are expected to have the foundational #literacy skills they need to succeed in subsequent grades. Starting in fourth grade, there is less classroom emphasis on learning to read and more emphasis on reading to learn, meaning that students who cannot read miss out on key knowledge across all subjects and end up at a higher risk of dropping out of school. In a guest blog for the Education Commission of the States, AIR's Jill Bowdon discusses how states can continue to support reading proficiency beyond early elementary school, helping students of all grades improve their reading skills for academic success.
