We've announced our 16 finalists for this year's SECA Art Award! Since 1967, the SECA (Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art) Art Award has honored more than seventy Bay Area artists with an exhibition at the museum and an accompanying publication. Dedicated to making the art of our time a vital and meaningful part of public life.
About us
Art transforms lives. It provokes us to think, to express, to explore our own creativity, to envision new possibilities. SFMOMA expanded the museum to provide a better experience for our visitors and a better home for our expanding collections, including the SFMOMA collection and the Fisher Collection, one of the finest collections of contemporary art in the world. The new SFMOMA, designed in collaboration with the architecture firm Snøhetta, opened May 2016. With this project, we are transforming not just the museum's physical presence, but also our contributions to the community, enhancing SFMOMA's role as a place for learning, inspiration, and interaction for visitors from the Bay Area and beyond. We are making SFMOMA a magnet for contemporary art and for the audiences who will engage with it. View our current job listings → https://www.sfmoma.org/join-the-team

What are museums for, and what challenges do they face? Eduardo Pineda's new mural reflects on these questions, and more. For 16 years, Pineda worked at SFMOMA in our Education department, before eventually returning to full-time work as a muralist and public artist in 2006. Recently, he was invited back to paint this lovely mural in our Koret Education Center. So how does it feel to come back after more than a decade and put some art on our museum walls? Pineda said, "After working here for so long not as the artist, but as part of the support team for the arts, being able to come back and actually contribute in a creative way through the arts—it really is an extraordinary thing." #Mural #MuralArt #SanFrancisco #BayArea

"[Pacita] Abad was a witness. And she brought it to her work long before doing so was fashionable, as it is now ... She painted with deep humanity. Tenderness, providing just enough detail to get the point across." Check out the Forbes review of "Pacita Abad" at the link! https://lnkd.in/g37GXytF
