In celebration of Avatar: The Way of Water and the global “Keep Our Oceans Amazing” campaign, James Cameron and The Walt Disney Company commissioned renowned underwater photographer Christy Lee Rogers to create a collection of photographs celebrating our oceans. The artworks – featuring the film’s stars Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver and Kate Winslet – will help protect 10 of our ocean’s amazing animals and their habitats, connected to the beauty of Pandora, as 100% of net proceeds from the art sales will go to The Nature Conservancy and help protect our oceans. As part of TNC’s comprehensive climate strategy, Women in Climate (WIC) is uniting women from all backgrounds to solve the climate crisis. Climate solutions need to be more inclusive, collaborative and innovative…simply put, they require Women in Climate. Specifically, our three main goals are: 1. Create a diverse, global network of women advancing natural climate solutions. 2. Advance viable climate-centered ideas and activities focused on reducing/sequestering carbon and conserving land and coastal ecosystems. 3. Mobilize the WIC Network. Join us on this journey! 🌊 Today, we celebrate a major achievement in our #UnitedforRivers initiative to protect over 400 kilometres of rivers across the Western Balkans! The County Assembly in Karlovac, Croatia has made a historic vote to establish the Mrežnica and Tounjčica rivers as natural monuments, marking the birth of two new protected areas in Croatia. The protected areas will play an important role in preserving the natural and social values of the rivers, offering sustainable recreational opportunities for locals and visitors alike while preserving important habitats and species. To ensure that this protection is long-lasting, we will continue our work with Public Institution NATURA VIVA and Karlovac County to build effective conservation measures and sustainable management practices within these pristine areas. 🤝 Together, we're safeguarding Croatia's natural treasures and setting a shining example for river conservation efforts across the region and beyond.

Alabama has some of the most diverse freshwater in the United States but dams on its namesake river have blocked the migrations of some fish for generations. In a Q/A with Nature Conservancy magazine, Jason Throneberry, TNC’s director of freshwater programs in the state, talks fish cannons, the endangered Alabama sturgeon and the massive effort underway with the Army Corps to restore fish migrations in the south. https://nature.ly/438tFfq

Protecting nature isn’t just for now or the future. Sometimes we must protect the past, too. The Nature Conservancy helped South Australia create Nilpena Ediacara National Park, which protects rare fossils from the Ediacaran Period (the time half a billion years ago when algae and microbiota began evolving into the first complex animals and plants). https://nature.ly/3TkA2Jw

📣Exciting news!📣 We're thrilled to announce the acquisition of 8,000 acres in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta where the Alabama and Tombigbee Rivers join, known as the Mobile Delta’s Land Between the Rivers. This critical tract’s creeks, rivers, ponds and oxbow lakes contribute to the Delta’s recognition as the home to the greatest number of freshwater species in the U.S., making it one of the most ecologically diverse places on the planet.
