At a time when most teachers are feeling stressed and overwhelmed in their jobs, we asked 2,531 U.S. public K-12 teachers this open-ended question: “If there’s one thing you’d want the public to know about teachers, what would it be?” Here’s what they had to say:

Teachers have always had to deal with students being distracted in the classroom. But today's teachers have to contend with something that nearly all teens have: Phones. A new Pew Research Center survey finds that 72% of high school teachers say students being distracted by their phones is a major problem in their classroom. https://lnkd.in/gQDZZGGS

South Korea's fertility rate dropped to an all-time low in 2023, despite the hundreds of billions of dollars its government has spent on policies to boost fertility in the past two decades. Still, fewer than a third of adults in South Korea say women have an obligation to society to have children.

Excited to share my newest publication at Pew Research Center on the low fertility rates in East Asia, views about societal obligations for women to bear children, and a quick overview of government policies put in place to combat low fertility rates. A few key facts: - South Korea has one of the world’s lowest fertility rates as of 2021 despite the hundreds of billions of dollars its government has spent on policies to boost fertility since 2006 - 29% of adults in South Korea and Vietnam say women have an obligation to society to have children; even fewer say this in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan - This number is higher among adults 55 years and older: 53% of South Korean adults ages 55+ say women have a societal obligation to have children - Majority of adults in these five places say that women should decide for themselves whether to have children - Governments in these places have used a variety of policies to try to increase fertility rates ranging from giving people cash stipends to offering locally government-sponsored matchmaking events to help single adults find a partner Read more in the link below! https://pewrsr.ch/3TJkOwz

NEW Pew Research Center report out today about discrimination and free speech issues related to the Israel-Hamas war. A few key findings: - The share of U.S. adults who say there is a lot of discrimination against Jews in our society has doubled in the last 3 years, from 20% to 40% - 44% say Muslims face a lot of discrimination, up 5 points since 2021 - Americans are broadly comfortable with speech both for and against Israeli and Palestinian statehood -- but few are okay with calls for violence against Jews or Muslims - 27% of Muslims and 26% of Jews have stopped talking to someone in person or unfollowed/blocked someone online because of something that person said about the war. - 74% of U.S. Jews and 60% of U.S. Muslims say they have felt personally offended by something they saw on the news or social media about the Israel-Hamas war Much more here: https://lnkd.in/gwnGVcfF #survey #research #data #israel #gaza #discrimination
