Our planet’s nature is diminishing, fast. Climate change, habitat destruction, unsustainable resource use, poaching. It’s all having a devastating impact on our home. It’s time to change the story. Working with local partners, communities, and supporters like you, our shared purpose is to protect the diversity of life on Earth, for the survival of the planet and its people. We are committed to saving nature, together. Protecting habitats, reviving the ocean, reducing extinctions, stopping illegal wildlife trade, combatting climate change. We fuse local and international knowledge to find the best solutions to the issues we face; from working directly in biodiverse areas, to influencing governments and businesses on a global scale.

“Our new survey is one of the most comprehensive review of mangrove biodiversity conducted anywhere to date. The results scientifically demonstrate the many, many species that are reliant on the mangroves’ unique ecosystem – but we’re still only just scratching the surface." - Stefanie Rog, Fauna & Flora’s Cambodia Coastal & Marine Programme Manager. We’ve just conducted the first comprehensive biodiversity survey of Cambodia’s largest mangrove forest. Over 700 species have been identified within this vital ecosystem. The survey was led by Fauna & Flora and the Fishing Cat Ecological Enterprise, in collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment. The new study involved camera trap surveys, mist netting, targeted fish and insect surveys and visual (night) transects during the 2023 dry and wet seasons, and also analysed previous survey data. 📸 Jeremy Holden / Fauna & Flora 📸 Fauna & Flora / FCEE / Vanessa Munoz 📸 Fauna & Flora/ FCEE

📢 Help us understand the use of ecological connectivity in conservation. If you work in conservation research or practice, please consider filling out our survey and forwarding to your colleagues. It takes on average 13 minutes to complete. Your feedback will help to provide valuable insights for the development of new tools and guidance that make connectivity and its assessment more accessible to those working in conservation. This work is being led by the Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI) and includes partners from the Endangered Landscapes & Seascapes Programme (ELSP), Fauna & Flora , RSPB, British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) and UK UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH). https://lnkd.in/dvpRBrb6

A recent karst survey in Cambodia's Battambang province has revealed some exciting discoveries. This karst landscape is a critically important ecosystem and is now thought to be home to several species new to science. The survey was conducted by a team of researchers, including Fauna & Flora and Ministry of Environment staff and expert herpetologists led by La Sierra University. The information gathered from this study will be crucial for future conservation efforts and management planning for karst areas in Cambodia. Over the coming months, the survey team will be conducting genetic analysis to confirm their findings - watch this space for updates. A special thank you to the BCOMING project with funding from EU for making this possible.

We're pleased to announce that a new working definition of destructive fishing has been drafted following a rigorous consultation process. This will help to inform global policy discussions, while meaningfully supporting countries to prohibit destructive fishing practices. Many policies and international frameworks – including the UN Sustainable Development Goals - recognise the need to end destructive fishing practices to conserve marine resources, protect the ocean and ensure peace and prosperity for people and the planet. However, despite its widespread use, “destructive fishing” is currently undefined and therefore immeasurable. The vagueness of the term has rendered it a quasi-concept, undermining the ability to develop and implement effective solutions. Hannah Richardson Fauna & Flora’s lead on destructive fishing, says: “Fisheries are fundamental to global food security, but if we want to ensure the future health of fish stocks – and our ocean - we need to avoid fishing methods that are destructive to marine ecosystems and everything living in them. This new definition is an incredibly important step forward for the ocean and the sustainable livelihoods of fishers around the world. Without clear guidelines of what destructive fishing is, it is nearly impossible to bring in the international policy or action to address it.” Learn more about the new paper, and read it in full - https://lnkd.in/eAgt5irZ #DestructiveFishing #SavingNatureTogether #SDGs #Fisheries #FoodSecurity #Biodiversity
