✨ NEW CAMPAIGN ✨ Bottom trawls are decimating marine life in Europe’s so-called “protected” areas. This highly destructive fishing practice involves vessels dragging weighted nets over thriving ecosystems, scraping bare once vibrant habitats, and indiscriminately sweeping up vulnerable species like dolphins 🐬, corals 🪸, turtles 🐢, and more. Seas At Risk, Oceana in Europe & Only One demand that EU leaders actually protect their protected areas and the marine life that relies on them. ✊ Act now by adding your name to the appeal, and then share this post with three of your ocean-loving friends: https://lnkd.in/eeTtQHj2

The EU allows destructive fishing practices, including bottom trawling, to occur in its 'protected' seas. 🌊 But where is most of this underwater destruction taking place? Our recent study of seven countries shows that Dutch 🇳🇱 marine protected areas (MPAs) are the most targeted, where bottom trawlers have indiscriminately scraped up the seafloor for a combined total of more than two million hours in less than ten years! 🤯 Explore the graphics below and add your name to the appeal at the link below to make a change and urge the EU to #BanBottomTrawling in protected areas: https://lnkd.in/edjTzVnV Only One, Oceana in Europe

👀 Who are 🛡️Protectors, 🐌Procrastinators and 🦖Prehistoric Thinkers at European Parliament? 😱 Our new in-depth European Parliament Scoreboard reveals that only a minority of 2019-2024 MEPs acted as Protectors of the Green Deal. Instead, the majority were either Procrastinators or Prehistoric thinkers, delaying real climate action with patchy and inconsistent voting records, or worse, completely failing to rise to the challenge of the crises Europe is facing. ⏰ This is a wake-up call for Europeans who want to see a climate-neutral, nature-positive and socially just Europe in the future. 👉 Check out our new interactive tool: https://lnkd.in/dg_47pRk #votefutureEU BirdLife Europe and Central Asia European Environmental Bureau Transport & Environment (T&E) WWF European Policy Office
