Today we celebrate the birthday of one of the founders of the European Union, Robert Schuman! On this day in 1886, the former President of the European Parliament was born in Luxembourg. He later became a French citizen and was a key participant in the resistance during WWII. After the war, Schuman dedicated his life to politics with the goal of promoting peace and unity across Europe. His declaration on 9 May 1950 laid the foundations for the birth of the EU that shares these same principles.
