Lou's early career highlights include his role as the Founding CEO at Blackboard, where he impacted over 3 million individuals teaching and learning on the platform. Throughout his career, Lou has also held key leadership positions at Moodlerooms, Learning Diagnostics Inc., and Educational Testing Service (ETS). Most recently, Lou has held board positions at Nexford University and Education Design Labs, in addition to serving as a Senior Advisor for the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Lou's dedication to harnessing his business acumen to drive social impact, especially in the educational sector, resonates deeply with our core values at Upright Education. 🌟 We are equally excited to welcome David Berger, who joins us as of January 1st, 2024. An accomplished ed-tech entrepreneur with 3 exits, David is passionate about transforming workforce development and enhancing economic mobility through innovative market solutions. As the former President and Co-Founder of Trilogy Education, David and his team pioneered the university bootcamp partnership model, culminating in its acquisition by 2U in 2019 for $750 million. Currently, David lends his expertise to advising companies on growth strategies, customer acquisition, and precision financial modeling. His insights and rich experience are set to be invaluable assets in propelling Upright Education to greater heights of success. Lou and David's combined expertise in education technology, venture financing, and strategic partnership development make them ideal board members to steer Upright Education into its next phase of growth and innovation. I’ve just completed a 12-week-long Full-stack Software Development Bootcamp hosted by UpRight. I can’t believe how quickly it went by. I am grateful for the experience, and I can truly say I had a blast during the past three months of my life. Throughout this time, I learned a lot about myself—I discovered a genuine love for coding. Steve Jobs’ quote, “Computers are like bicycles for the mind,” has always inspired me to view computers as more than just machines we’ve grown accustomed to. Over the past three months, I learned to build and style my own websites and even contributed to developing an employee scheduling app for Direct Service Providers—something I never thought would be possible. I have newfound confidence and belief in myself. I would like to express my gratitude to my instructor, Rob VanArsdall, for his time and mentorship. Rob’s calm and friendly demeanor made it easy to learn from him. His dad jokes constantly had me cracking up, creating a comfortable learning environment. One of my favorite moments during the whole Bootcamp was when I was working on a group project, and we had spent at least an hour and a half staring at code searching for a bug, and Rob fixed the error for us in about 2 minutes. I would like to thank my career advisor, Hollie Thomas, for teaching me about LinkedIn and networking. Hollie provided valuable job-search advice and shared numerous insightful ideas. I would also like to express my gratitude to our class TA, Mary Reagan, for her patience and help. Mary invested a significant amount of time and effort into assisting me with class projects, and for that, I am immensely grateful. I would like to express my gratitude to my first instructor, Paul Niemczyk. Paul is one of the most talented developers I have ever met, and his time instructing me truly inspired me. He set a high bar for being a skilled programmer that I am still striving to reach. This moment is bittersweet for me. I am proud of myself for this accomplishment but I can’t say I won’t miss logging on and seeing my cohort 9-5 Monday to Friday. I grew to truly admire the people that were in the trenches with me, staring at code 8 hours a day. Because of them, I felt I wasn’t alone and that I could push through the difficult moments in the course. I’m so happy for my cohort, and I can’t wait to see what is in store for them in the future. This is only the beginning of my development journey, and UpRight gave me the best start I could have ever asked for.
