Danny DeArmond Recently posted an article related to the state of the staffing industry as well as some best-practices to land the job you've always wanted - and let us know how we can help!
Regarding the highly technical or audit & forensic accounting consultants I contact for permanent or contract on-site roles that are requiring 5 days in office, most of them just laugh. Yes, Jamie Dimon, we're aware your real estate isn't cheap and you want to get people back into their cubicles... but the more I hear about these corporations forcing exceptional talent in the office, the more I hear from people who are tired of lacking control or freedom to do what they do best who will absolutely not fall in line with a 5-day/wk in-office position. These people are looking for new jobs. I truly do believe there are many benefits to being in office; team building, communication in general, building rapport with your coworkers and clients, and networking with the right people so you can develop a clear path towards advancement, along with many other benefits that come with working with your team face-to-face. The caveat to this can be found in the technical workforce - data and analytic engineers, software developers, anyone in analytics, or audit, or data governance, cybersecurity, financial and regulatory reporting, etc. can all be done remotely and efficiently as long as you are hiring the right people. That being said, certain companies simply don't share this philosophy. For those of you (not you, JPMorgan) who are pursing these roles, I would highly recommend keeping your mind open to hybrid roles. The high performers at any of these companies who develop high-yield relationships and put up numbers, are reliable and have great time management.... Those are the people you want in your corner. In the current environment there is more room for negotiation than ever. There's been a major shift in mid-senior professionals who have discovered time with family and a healthy work-life balance is more important to them. Candidates (my own market data) are literally taking $150-200k pay cuts to work with companies that have a holistic philosophy on how they treat their employees, and clients. Never settle for less than what you're worth - that being said, don't let a "5 days in office" requirement keep you from applying. The majority of these companies (the healthy ones who care) are almost always willing to negotiate a hybrid schedule with you, depending on the position and location. First comes family Second is your physical and mental well-being Third comes your career and your ability to provide for said family Decide on 3 non-negotiables, stick to your guns, but be as professional and respectful as possible so you can paint a real human example for these hiring managers instead of alluding to "I just don't want to be there every day." Some concessions may be necessary, but at least you can dig deeper into what the company truly needs. It's difficult to navigate conversations like this, so reach out to me directly - I advise many people pursuing new career paths and others wanting to switch industries. danny@artiussolutions.com
