After working separately on a few films, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have finally settled on their first joint project. And it was a cat that brought them together.
EW can confirm that the comedy duo have set up Keanu at New Line Cinema, with production set to start in spring 2015. Keanu focuses on friends who pretend to be drug dealers, infiltrating the criminal underworld in an effort to rescue a stolen cat.
Key and Peele will serve as producers on the film. Peele wrote the script with Key & Peele and Community writer Alex Rubens. The show’s director, Peter Atencio, is in talks to direct the film, but has not officially signed on. Deadline first reported the news.
The comedy partners have other potential film projects still to consider, however, including a Police Academy reboot, an untitled Judd Apatow project, and an adaptation of one of their most beloved characters.
