“The Rose Garden : Green Room” Exhibition

The Rose Garden: Green Room is a remarkable collaboration presented by CulturalDC, featuring the visionary work of Philadelphia-based trans artist, John Jarboe (she/her). This stunning installation coincides with the theatrical production of Rose: You Are Who You Eat.

The Rose Garden: Green Room is an immersive exhibition inside CulturalDC’s Mobile Art Gallery, a 40-foot shipping container converted into a movable contemporary art space. The Mobile Art Gallery will be transformed by John Jarboe into an interactive space filled with video, music, and sentimental items to connect the visitors to the essence of John’s consumed twin, Rose. The space is intended to inspire connections to ancestry and identity through interaction with video installations, original songs, and multimedia art by Jarboe that evoke memories and reflection. Jarboe’s artistic vision is to empower visitors by allowing a sense of surprise, vulnerability, and communal catharsis through interaction.

In addition to the installation in CulturalDC’s Mobile Art Gallery, the opening of The Rose Garden: Green Room on June 8th from 4-7 PM will showcase multiple lobby activations at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, including an all-inclusive queer closet in collaboration with the DC LGBTQ+ Community Center. Visitors will have the chance to shop for clothes from Rose’s Closet, with all items free. Additional activations include videos from the production and a cozy space for writing love letters to your gender, available throughout the duration of The Rose Garden: Green Room.
