Preserving Palestinian Identity: Art as Resistance
July 12 - July 13
The Museum of the Palestinian People hosts a two-day event showcasing Palestinian artists, performers, writers, and chefs as they uplift and celebrate Palestinian culture as the current war rages on in Gaza. With the support of the DC Commission of Arts, this event is the first of its kind for the Museum of the Palestinian People, which opened in 2019 and has welcomed thousands of people through its doors since.
Friday night offers a showcase of Palestinian art, including poetry readings by Alexandria poet laureate, Zeina Azzam and Palestinian poet from Gaza, Mohammed Arafat. Percussionist Mohamed Karzon and Malikat Dabke, a women’s dabke group, will also perform traditional Palestinian songs.
On Saturday, there will be three full floors of activities, education, music and, food. Expect dabke instructors, henna design, kids story time, tea, coffee, and other Palestinian dishes by local Palestinian chefs Marcelle G Afram, owner of Shababi, and chef Jinan Deena, owner of Bayti.
