Washington City Paper is seeking a motivated, energetic, and detail-oriented business sales director to lead its advertising efforts in prospecting new clients, strengthening relationships with existing partners, and achieving monthly and quarterly sales targets.

Since 1981, WCP has been D.C.’s award-winning, local news outlet for longtime residents and newcomers alike. WCP provides breaking news and investigative journalism through its coverage of local politics, arts and entertainment, and food and drink to our millions of readers each year.

Qualifications

● The business sales director must possess strong communication and organizational skills as well as a willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, yet independent environment. Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks is required.

● Strong analytic capabilities and interest in advertising, marketing, sales, and events

● Interest and willingness to attend networking events to cultivate leads and represent WCP

● Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel. CRM experience is a plus.

● Self-motivated with at least five to 10 years of related experience

● This position is remote, but the candidate must live in D.C. or the surrounding Maryland or Virginia suburbs in order to attend internal and external meetings and networking events.

Responsibilities

● The business sales director is responsible for driving revenue by delivering and executing sales proposals and reports.

● The business sales director plays an instrumental role in understanding the culture, reach, and demographics of WCP’s audience to deliver creative campaigns and solutions.

● Work on all facets of client relations including proposal completion, media plans, customer service, and revenue objectives.

● Provide outstanding customer service through product knowledge, industry news, and market expertise.

● Establish strong working relationships across the company’s internal departments and external clients.

● Develop and foster relationships to drive new business, renewals, and up-sell to clients.

● Prospect new business.

● Manage and complete RFPs in a timely manner.

● Prepare PowerPoint presentations to supplement media plans and proposals.

● Prepare weekly sales reports.

● Continually strive for improvement on the sales and operations processes.

● Think creatively while juggling several projects at once.
