Steph Curry reacts to Klay Thompson leaving the Warriors

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Klay Thompson’s departure from the Golden State Warriors to the Dallas Mavericks in free agency marks the end of a historic run for one of the most decorated backcourts in NBA history.

For the first time in their careers, Steph Curry and Thompson will no longer be teammates. Since Thompson joined the Warriors in 2011, the duo has gone on to not only be the best shooting duo in history but also one of the top backcourt partnerships in the league.

Following the news of Thompson’s decision to join the Mavericks, his longtime teammate Curry took to Instagram to share his emotional reaction. Curry posted a message regarding Thompson on his Instagram story, along with 30 images of their storied time as teammates.

Thompson and Curry’s arrival in Golden State helped usher in a new brand of basketball across the league, with an emphasis on shooting from beyond the arc. From 2012 to 2017, “the Splash Brothers” finished in the top three in 3-pointers made in the NBA, with over 200 made each. Curry and Thompson currently sit at No. 1 and No. 2 for made 3-pointers in Golden State’s franchise record book.

Along with setting fire to NBA record books from deep, Curry and Thompson became NBA champions with the Warriors four times.
