A 21-year-old Waco man was arrested Thursday after a drive-by shooting last year that left two injured.
Sedarrien Saquan Nichols, a former Waco High School defensive back, was booked into McLennan County Jail on two second-degree felony counts of aggravated assault, as well as a third-degree felony count of deadly conduct.
Nichols’ arrest affidavit says Waco police believe Nichols is a member of a criminal street gang and that gang-related activity was the motive for the shooting on March 29, 2023, in the 1600 block of Spring Street.
Two people in a large crowd on Spring Street were hit by gunfire from a gray sedan and were taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center, according to the affidavit.

The car had made two passes through the large group before different sets of gunfire opened on the crowd, the affidavit says. The gunfire came from Nichols, who was hanging out of the window in the front passenger seat of the sedan, and another person in the rear seat passenger, according to the affidavit.
Witnesses at the time identified Nichols as the front-seat passenger through pictures on social media, the affidavit says. Later in the investigation, a witness provided sworn testimony identifying Nichols as the person who was shooting, according to the affidavit.
Nichols remained jailed Friday with bail set at $2.25 million.
