New Team Members Help Break Down Barriers to Justice 

RICHMOND, VA – The Virginia Poverty Law Center (VPLC) welcomes two new Outreach Coordinators, a new LA VIDA Program Paralegal, a new Communications Director and, a new Office and Finance Manager to the team.

Fresh off the heels of landmark wins against the Virginia Employment Commission and predatory lenders, VPLC is not ready to rest its case in the struggle against poverty.

“All of these positions help us to connect with the part of our population in Virginia that has historically been left behind,” said Jay Speer, VPLC Executive Director. “A strong team solidifies our impact as we work to break down the barriers that keep low-income Virginians in the cycle of poverty.”

New VPLC Staff:

• Kajsa Foskey, Economic Justice Outreach Coordinator: Kajsa will concentrate her community engagement efforts on utility fairness as well as access to clean energy  for those in low-income areas across Virginia.
• Carol Gordon, Office and Finance Manager: Carol is the support system to the team, responsible for the day-to-day financial and office operations of Virginia Poverty Law Center.
• Daynee Rosales, LA VIDA Program Paralegal: This grant-funded program – full name being Legal Assistance to Victim-Immigrants of Domestic Abuse – assists certain low-income immigrant victims of domestic/sexual violence or trafficking
  in applying for visas for which they are eligible.
• Amanda Silcox, Economic Justice Outreach Coordinator: Amanda will focus her efforts on sharing resources that promote equity and fairness in lending, access to safe and affordable credit, and prevention of harm from credit scams.
• Connie Stevens, Communications Director:  Connie has decades of experience working for both nonprofit organizations and media. She is relocating to Richmond from Roanoke, VA to support critical engagement efforts throughout VPLC’s impact centers.

VPLC looks forward to the impact its new employees make in the collective struggle against poverty.
