Social Capital is Important

A critical recovery nutrient for any community is a safe and supportive recovery environment that offers a variety of recovery supports. A Recovery Community Center (RCC) is a place free from stigma that offers peer recovery support to the entire Recovery Community, regardless of pathway.

"As I look out this window on North Broadway, I watch folks walking by and I recall the many times I walked by staring straight into this window unable to lift my head. I was so hopeless. I didn't feel human enough to wanna look another human being in the eyes. A month ago I heard that I could wash my laundry in this place with no strings attached - I just needed to sign up for recovery coaching. I thought to myself that was a small price to pay to do laundry. I stumbled in feeling defeated and beneath everyone. I had accepted that I'd die out here and fade from everyone's memory. Now, I'm staring out this window waiting for a ride back to treatment. I feel complete opposite of how I felt when I first came here. Thanks to Voices of Hope I know I am worthy of recovery and can live a meaningful life. I've received encouragement and have been able to talk to others that know exactly how I feel and what I've been through. I could write a small book on how this place has breathed new life in me. But I'll sum it up that I was as good dead without hope, and Voices of Hope has restored my hope! It's sparked new life into me and now I am plugged into a recovery community. I am no longer hopeless, no longer feeling inferior, and no longer alone."
