https://lnkd.in/eaBuyBRb Sanctions remain high up the risk agenda for organisations operating across multiple jurisdictions. Sienna B.’s article explores significant themes that emerge in the fifth edition of the GIR Guide to Sanctions – from why NGOs are in a unique position to potentially influence future programmes to the impact of cyber-related sanctions, with recommendations for how organisations can navigate this complex landscape. Victoria Turner and Zia Ullah of Eversheds Sutherland shine a light on how a well-thought out and properly embedded compliance programme is crucial for mitigating risk, but caution that the best programmes are never finished. While NGOs – and those who work with them – are heavily affected by sanctions, Dharak (Derek) Bhavsar, Anna Searcey, Adam Smith and David Wolber of GIBSON, DUNN AND CRUCHTER report that this impact is now being properly recognised and that improved guidance from OFAC is providing some mitigation. John Bedford, Tim Bowden and Darshak Dholakia of Dechert LLP explore the pressure that sanctions place on financial institutions and why flexibility is vital. Finally, Annie Cho, Laura Deegan, Manuel Levitt, Rebecca Tweedie and Tim O'Toole of Miller & Chevalier Chartered grapple with compliance questions when it comes to cyber-related sanctions.
