We've just announced that six project teams from our 2024 cohort have been accepted onto Phase II of the accelerator! These six teams were selected from the 25 that took part in Phase I. Three of them will receive a £70,000 grant to continue developing their tech, while three more Rising Stars will benefit from four months of mentorship and training. “The Phase II selection was made by an expert panel including renowned cancer researchers, tech specialists, and health and biotech investors," says Lotus Qi, Head of MedTech at Capital Enterprise. "We congratulate all the successful teams, both those which received funding and our Rising Stars. We have combined forces to help develop, build and grow the next big health-tech start-up. We provide a platform to test ideas with world leading experts ranging from deep AI all the way to clinical oncology. We want to work with researchers, at any stage, with a novel idea or technology to improve the lives of cancer patients including imaging, diagnostics, medical devices or using a new data-driven approach.

♀️ "I’ve invented an alternative to uncomfortable #SmearTests" - Sânziana Foia, Papcup Recently featured in BBC News, Sânziana shared how she went for her first smear test at the age of 25, she was surprised by how uncomfortable she found the whole experience. Afterwards, she talked to other women and discovered it's actually quite a shared unpleasant experience and the current technique had not been innovated in decades. https://hubs.ly/Q02GZ2Lx0 While she was pursuing her PhD in bio-engineering at Imperial College London she was developing bio-sensors, and wondered if there is a way to do this in a non-invasive way and where women can have control over the test themselves. Sânziana's original idea during her PhD was initially developed at Imperial College Advanced Hackspace, where the team went on to win last year's Hackstarter competition.

The very same day we onboarded Cohort 2 of the AI accelerator we are delivering with Turing Innovation Catalyst Manchester, we invited all the teams from Cohorts 1 and 2 to join us for a summer social at the very smart Ducie Street Warehouse! As we look forward to getting to know Cohort 2 over the coming months, it was great to see them mingle with our incredible mentors and entrepreneurs in residence who will be supporting them to build amazing products and smash their fundraising goals. And it was incredibly satisfying to hear from so many Cohort 1 founders about how the support they’ve received on our accelerator is already spurring growth. Thanks to Elizabeth Scott MBE and Jasmin Kailath for a warm welcome, and to our mentors and EiRs David Turner Sarah Foster Mark Duman ⚡️James Akrigg Surayyah Ahmad Sani David Levine Naomi Timperley FRSA Mark Dearden Ross Mackenzie Raam Shankar Segev Hochberg Adam Mitcheson Sherin Mathew Laura Malins Tom Liptrot Nyree Trimbel for turning out in force to welcome Cohort 2. Our expert mentors have delivered over 50 hours of LIVE content in Phase 1 from March until June.
