We are looking for a Trainee Project Manager to join our Cardiff based Strategic Projects team.

The Strategic Projects division is a diverse people-centric team of professionals from a wide variety of built environment and engineering-related backgrounds, working to deliver a standout approach to the complexities of integrated engineering services. Our team provides an approachable, adaptable, accountable single point of contact for key projects and is founded on the core characteristics of the people within it and the core skills necessary to succeed.

In this role the key duties centre around being exposed to key activities and end-to-end delivery of projects that will develop you across three of our four core skill areas: Technical, Professional and Business Development.

Core Skills And Duties

As a Trainee PM your key Technical responsibilities will centre around becoming more aware of and growing your involvement in the core processes of setting up and running projects. These will include:

  • Supporting the PM in the setting up of new projects, contract administration and quality assurance.
  • Organising, coordinating and recording meetings with key project stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Preparing project control documents such as project programmes, invoicing profiles, change control, project directories and scopes of services.
  • Compiling fee proposals from our technical divisions and sub-consultants.
  • Collating project information on behalf of the project team.
  • Encouraging and promoting collaborative working behaviours to maintain efficient and effective delivery relationships between full project team.
  • Support the PM in managing, monitoring and reporting on project progress.
  • Assist the PM in identifying, recording and managing project risk.
  • Attending site visits with the PM or others to understand site constraints.
  • Be a Strategic Projects ambassador for technical excellence in project management.

The Next Focus Of Responsibility Will Centre On Business Development. In Strategic Projects This Is Supporting The Delivery Of Tenders And Bids, Developing Work Opportunities, And Building Internal And External Relationships. As a Trainee PM, The Key Responsibilities Begin With Your Focus On The Following:

  • Supporting others in the preparation of bid ‘Go/No-Go’ opportunity appraisals
  • Supporting the request for fee proposals from our technical divisions and sub-consultants
  • Supporting others in the preparation of multi-disciplinary bids and tender responses
  • Supporting a positive profile of Strategic Projects and the wider Hydrock brand

While Growing Your Knowledge Of Project Winning And Delivery, You Will Also Focus On Your Professional Development. With Our Support, Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Acquiring a professional qualification, such as the Association for Project Management (APM) Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ), or equivalent
  • Increasing your awareness of key people and core services across Hydrock
  • Being an ambassador for Strategic Projects

What qualifications do I need?

Ideally, you will already hold a project management qualification such as the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) or similar. however, we don't believe this should be a barrier to entry, and therefore we will consider applicants who don't have this. It would be important that you have a passion for project management and are keen to embark on a qualification upon starting the role, and you would of course be supported through this journey. Any experience related to engineering, construction, sustainability, energy or the environment would be preferable, but not essential.

We are, most importantly, looking for a member of our team who will be the right fit, who is curious and adaptable and has a passion for the built environment. We need someone who is proactive, organised and enthusiastic; a good communicator, a solution provider and a team player.
