Purpose of the Job

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate Senior Technician for strain maintenance and quality control testing of our self-limiting technology in crop-damaging insect species.

As Senior Technician (QC), you will join our dynamic Quality Control team, and directly work with one of Oxitec's key products, the FriendlyTM Fall Armyworm. You will be responsible for maintaining quality-controlled insect colonies, this involves rearing all insect life stages and performing rearing-based quality control assays. All work must be completed according to standard operating procedures and pre-defined performance requirements. You will analyse quality and yield data and report your results in regular quality meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Rearing Oxitec's FriendlyTM Fall Armyworm through all insect life stages;
  • Performing rearing-based quality control assays according to standard operating procedures;
  • Meticulous data collection and documentation of all activities in quality-controlled records;
  • Initial data analysis and reporting of results;
  • Highlighting areas of improvement and participation in continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Writing and updating Standard Operating Procedures and records;
  • Organization and maintenance of the QC lab including maintenance of laboratory stock solutions, supplies and equipment as well as cleaning activities;
  • Supporting other Quality Control activities, as required;
  • Ensuring Health & Safety and containment requirements are met for all activities;
  • Providing occasional weekend support as part of a rota;
  • Additional tasks may be added, if required and within scope of role.

Skills, Experience, And Education Requirements

  • A BSc in Zoology, Entomology or Biological Sciences;
  • Experience working in a quality-regulated laboratory and experience in insect rearing are a strong plus for this role;
  • Diligent and organised, with the ability to accurately record data;
  • A creative approach to problem solving and the development of applied solutions;
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent timekeeping standards and responsiveness;
  • Able to work independently and within a team;
  • Good written English and oral communication skills;
  • Competent in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
