An increase of 1,600 contributors to open source projects in the UK, in the last 6 months. This figure reflects those whose code contributions have been accepted (commits). This increase of 1600 in 6 months reflects against the growth of 1,700 in the previous 12 months. The data indicates a strong increase across all levels of commits to open source projects from the UK, although, at the top level of a committer, who has had 1,000 plus commits accepted, the growth rate is unsurprisingly significantly smaller, but still with relatively good growth. Demand for Intermediate-level Software Developers is decreasing, resulting in salary levels on offer declining. For the time being it appears that the days of intermediate developers securing 15% - 20% pay increases when moving jobs are over.   Current advertised salaries for software developers in the UK (3 months to June 2024) are down to 2019 levels.   Is this trend mirrored elsewhere in the world? Day 1 of London’s CTO Craft Con. Traditionaly for such events, lots of things to think about. Unconventionally though too high density of people whom we consider to be our ICP. Why so? Resourcing model of tech talent, especially remote one, unless designed to be managed by us as the vendor, may only work upon technical management existence on the client’s end. What questions I had joy of attending today? - how much difference may one expect in setups of “local remote teams” vs “global remote teams”? - what are the key gains one may get from our services? - what businesses will fail using nearshoring models and why I can forecast these failures even before the collaboration starts? - how much value we might add to the known-value-to-be local recruitment services? - why EOR platforms are good for our model sales while some think we “compete”? I wish I had a stage to answer these and few others. Maybe tomorrow will get one! ;)
