The messages I took from this morning's Hydrogen panel at Future Oil & Gas: - Our future energy system requires both electrons AND molecules. Its not either/or. - Hydrogen is a molecular energy carrier enabling climate action, but it also needs to enable business value to be realised (think price!). - Safety, safety, safety - do not ignore the safety case. - Engage, communicate and obtain societal consent. Let's not allow social media to fill the void. - If you want to go far, go together. Collaborate, consortium, consensus. Great contributions from Arthur Close (Schneider Electric), Taoufik Ait Ettajer (Repsol), James Steven (DNV), Gary Hickin (NOV), And masterful corralling and expert steering from Lizzie Henshaw of Baringa.

"New Energies = New Opportunities" And New Government Starting the day with the Labour Party winning the election and Sir Keir Starmer has been handed the keys to Downing Street. With the magical winning word ‘CHANGE’, the focus should be on the trio towards development and change Energy transition + Digital transformation + skills of the future. For energy transition, the party must now prove it is ready to deliver on and fully invest in the energy transition A call for a national energy transition strategy, a call for serious climate actions and pushing to work collaboratively to attract green investors to help deliver a sustainable future. The private sector should lead the change!

The decline in North Sea oil and gas production in the UK has made it more important than ever to secure energy contracts. The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) warns that relying on new oil and gas licenses will only increase our dependence on imported energy, potentially raising our import reliance by 25% by 2030. This reliance exposes us to the volatility of international gas prices, which can greatly impact our energy bills. Taking action now is crucial. Securing energy contracts today can protect against future price hikes and ensure stability during the shift to renewable energy sources. Delaying contract signing poses more risks than signing now, as it could result in higher costs and increased vulnerability to global market fluctuations. By locking in energy contracts promptly, you can safeguard your financial interests and support the UK's energy security and sustainability objectives. The ECIU highlights that transitioning to renewables, utilising electric heat pumps, and improving home insulation can significantly boost our energy self-sufficiency. With a significant portion of the projected £200 billion offshore investment by 2030 already allocated to projects, the opportunity for favorable contract terms is diminishing rapidly. Don't wait until it's too late, take charge and secure your contract today.

Hydrogen Safe
I'm excited to see where a career in hydrogen could take me" - Molly's #IamHydrogenSafe story Our development of the UK’s first Ofqual registered qualifications in hydrogen has been integrated into the ‘Practitioner in Pipelines for Hydrogen and Utilities’ Apprenticeship offered by IACS Training and Education. Molly kindly shared her insights on the training she received from Hydrogen Safe as part of her qualification... 💚 Your Green Story: were you always aware of the opportunities in hydrogen-related careers? "When deciding what direction to take my career in, I stumbled upon the apprenticeship on the Government’s apprentice website. Until that point, I had never heard of the hydrogen industry before!" ✅ What plans do you have once you complete your training? "Once I have completed my training, I plan to continue working for IACS as a Multi-Discipline Inspector (MDI)." 💡 What have you enjoyed the most about Hydrogen Safe's training? "The trainer, George was fab. He kept me engaged throughout the training and I thoroughly enjoyed it!" #HydrogenSafe #ConnectingtheSupply #GreenEnergy #HydrogenCareers #HydrogenTraining

The multi-billion pound question being posed at the Scottish Renewables Investing in Renewables conference today: how to enable investment ahead of-time investment? A great event discussing available types of investment, the industry need for clarity in policy and the supply chain risk of insufficient capability and capacity being scaled up in time to match the scale of offshore opportunity. More events like this please to keep connecting and progressing these confronting conversations - time is of the essence.

𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘁 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 💡 Yumann Siddiq Policy Manager at DCC and Chair of Energy UK’s Young Energy Professionals (YEP) Forum called on all energy professionals with less than ten years' experience in the sector to take part in a new ‘Future Energy Leaders’ survey launched by the YEP. Yumann said: “With an emerging skills gap of 750,000 new workers needed to reach Net Zero by 2050, the YEP Forum has launched a survey to capture insight on young professionals' experience of working within the energy industry." She added: "Focusing on what works, what doesn't work and how we can improve, the survey aims to gather tangible evidence on how to better attract and retain talented people to build long careers in this sector. Anyone with up to 10 years of experience can take part.” While the DCC smart metering network certainly has a pivotal role to play in the UK reaching #NetZero, the whole energy sector needs to rise to the challenge if we’re to protect our planet. Department for Energy Security and net Zero (DESNZ) has announced a consultation on regulatory options for Third Party Intermediaries in the energy sector. This is following on from it's last exercise, a "call for evidence on TPIs" which it held in 2021. Respondents to this raised several issues, such as the risks a TPI can create for a client by putting them into a contract motivated by it's own commercial benefit rather than the benefit to the customer. DESNZ has recognised that TPIs provide a positive contribution towards the energy markets through providing increased options, enhancing efficiency and helping consumers to manager risks, they recognise that promoting existing good practices and proportionate regulation can help further the positive impact from the TPI sector on customers. The upcoming consultation will gather further analysis on any significant developments in the market since the previous call for evidence exercise, with a government response to follow in due course. Partner's News The Energy Hubs – Fill the Backbone report by Hydrogen Scotland member Net Zero Technology Centre highlights the emerging opportunity to export green hydrogen from Scotland into the expanding hydrogen market in Europe. Economic modelling indicates that a 10 GW scale Energy Hub in Scotland producing green hydrogen from floating offshore wind could produce hydrogen for £3.90/kg. To capitalise on this opportunity, Scotland will need to develop strategic Energy Hubs in time to meet this growing demand. https://lnkd.in/gPJgp5SC
