Stephanie Cassee is spot on. This is exactly what our customers say, that they have found procurements to be far more successful when there is engagement with suppliers before starting the formal part of the procurement – that way they can better understand the sorts of features and innovations that are available on the market, and which of these can best help them. They can then specify these innovations when the formal part of the procurement is underway, resulting in a solution that better meets the needs of the authority. Councils looking to procure a new EMS, please have a quick look at this short article by my colleague.

There are amazing opportunities to lit up in the Healthcare, Education and Agriculture sectors as Vodafone has reinforced its commitment to roll out its 5G Standalone (5G SA) technology to rural Wales as part of its proposed merger with Three UK. Andrea Dona, Chief Network Officer, Vodafone UK, said: “We know that access to connectivity is important for everyone, but this research reveals the extent to which rural Wales is experiencing digital exclusion, showing exactly why we need to accelerate the roll out of 5G infrastructure. Through our proposed merger with Three UK, we would be able to help close the rural digital divide in Wales, helping these communities to take advantage of 5G and enjoy the same benefits it brings to their urban neighbours.” #5GULTRA #VFTHREEMERGER https://lnkd.in/dPX-XxgU

🏫 In the Education sector, Sustainability is in every annual report I read. Many Colleges, Schools and Universities are working hard already to reduce carbon emissions and committing to reaching net zero in the future. Cisco and CAE Technology Services Limited have partnered with Cambridgeshire schools to make their classrooms more sustainable. Initial deployments have seen a decrease in energy usage of a third across the newly installed wireless network access points. #Elevate24 has been unbelievable! Particular highlight for me has been Tom Mann’s Q&A about how Puzzel has helped to transform the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames council ease pressure in the contact centre, better support citizens, business and service users. Takeaways include: - digital channel uptake is huge from Gen Z to Boomers 👵👶 - being available for more complex enquiry types with vulnerable citizens particularly around adult social care and housing 🧑🍼 - empowering Agents to spend longer on calls with citizens that need the support the most ⌛️ - ability to spot trends from reporting, upskill agents, justifiable budget for SME head count 🔍 - better IVR insights and management has allowed them to reduce call forwards and repeat calls by over 30% 🤯 Tom’s advice for Councils yet to deliver a contact centre transformation project ‘get your agents involved, they’re the ones that live and breath the solution everyday, it needs to make their lives easier.’ On the experience working either Puzzel - ‘Puzzel have been great, right from the outset we felt Puzzel understood who we were and what was important. 18 Months in we are still feeling the love, we are meeting with Puzzel monthly and they’re helping us get more out of the solution.’ Great showcase of how Puzzel are helping UK Local Government organisations to maximise the cloud opportunity. SHAKING UP UK BROADBAND: NETOMNIA AND BRSK’S GAME-CHANGING DEAL Big news in the UK broadband world: Netomnia and Brsk are joining forces in what's being called the biggest merger yet among alternative network providers. This move is part of the industry's bid to give BT and Virgin Media O2 a run for their money in the full-fibre rollout across the country. The companies struck the deal last week, creating one of the largest "altnets" out there. Investors have been pouring billions into these altnets, hoping to challenge the big players. With the focus shifting from just laying down fibre to actually signing up customers, this kind of consolidation was pretty much expected. Everyone’s looking to get a return on their investment in the digital upgrade. We've seen other big moves recently too. For example, CityFibre announced it was buying Lit Fibre back in March, and Virgin Media O2 agreed to take over Upp in September. In this deal, Brsk will come under Netomnia’s parent company, Substantial Group, but it’ll still run independently with Brsk's CEO, Giorgio Iovino, staying in charge. They’re also creating a new wholesale company to combine their networks and potentially bring other altnets on board. Jeremy Chelot, CEO of Substantial, Netomnia, and their sister company YouFibre, said this merger is a major step towards becoming the UK’s third-largest full-fibre network, aiming to compete with Openreach and Virgin Media O2. Chelot mentioned that the market has been pretty fragmented with many small players, leading to uncertainty. This deal aims to create a more stable competitive environment, and they’re open to further consolidations. Currently, their full-fibre services reach 1.5 million premises with 140,000 customers already connected. They’re planning to use up to £900 million in debt to expand to 3 million premises and around 500,000 customers by the end of 2025. Iovino added that merging will help them break even on earnings a lot sooner and make the group an attractive consolidator in the market. The merger is set to be finalised soon, pending regulatory approval. No job cuts are expected. By the end of 2023, altnets collectively reached 12.9 million premises and had 2 million customers. #broadband #consolidation #netomnia #brsk #altnets

The British Chambers of Commerce has launched its Digital Revolution Report, offering a comprehensive framework for a connected, dynamic, and secure future for UK businesses. The report emphasizes the need for policymakers to focus on broadband, wireless connectivity, cybersecurity, and AI. According to Martha Lane Fox, the rapid pace of technological change presents a fantastic opportunity for businesses, but it requires a commitment to modernizing the UK's digital infrastructure. High-speed broadband and robust cybersecurity measures are fundamental for companies to thrive in the digital age. Priya Guha highlights that without these basics, businesses cannot fully explore the benefits of AI. The report is a call to action for sustained political commitment to ensure the UK's businesses keep pace with technological advancements. Digital Inclusion: The role of local authorities The industry is currently buzzing with discussions surrounding digital inclusion, highlighting the need for an updated approach from the government in response to the ever-evolving perspectives and experiences with digitisation. The pandemic has starkly emphasised this disparity, with some individuals embracing technology as a vital lifeline, while others struggled with digital isolation. Despite these challenges, digitalisation continues to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the public sector. It is imperative for organisations to ensure that their digital initiatives do not inadvertently leave communities behind or create barriers to accessing essential services. As councils embark on their digital transformation journeys, it becomes increasingly clear that they must actively involve their communities. Local authorities are entrusted with the crucial task of ensuring that digital initiatives not only empower but also deliver tangible benefits to both local communities and their staff. In a recent episode of the Public Sector Executive Podcast, Will Plant from Cambridgeshire County Council approached the topic of digital transformation within the sector with empathy and understanding. He emphasised the pivotal role of organisations in driving digital evolution while remaining vigilant to prevent any community members from being left behind. You can listen to the podcast here https://lnkd.in/e37r6YTY
