About

I obtained a BSc in Physiology before qualifying in Medicine from the Middlesex Hospital. After hospital jobs in London I joined The Wellcome Foundation in 1989 and spent 10 years at Wellcome and Glaxo Wellcome specialising in Cardiovascular Clinical Research.

After spending 2 years as Director of Medical Research at Napp I returned to GSK in 2001 and spent 20 years working in the fields of Drug Safety and Governance. I was the Qualified Person for Pharmacovigilance (QPPV) for 10 years and chaired both the GSK Labelling Committee and the Global Safety Board. In my final substantive role at GSK I served as Senior Vice President, Head of Drug Safety and Medical Governance.

Between May 2021 and December 2022 I returned to the NHS to support the Covid Mass Vaccination Programme working part time in Cambridge supporting and then leading vaccination sessions. I also do occasional work for GSK as a company Pharmacovigilance expert and I provide advice to smaller companies, serving as a Data Safety Monitoring Board member for two of them. In February 2022 I commenced a prestigious part time role as Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence based at University College London. This role entails providing guidance to academia on medicines development and working to establish a Platform for Drug Repurposing. Most recently, from March 2024, I commenced a part time advisory role with the medical research charity, LifeArc, supporting Drug Repurposing in Rare Diseases.

I am a past Vice President and Trustee of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, a former Responsible Officer for GMC Revalidation, a regular speaker at Conferences and I serve as an Honorary Lecturer in the Division of Medicine at UCL.
