With that in mind, your CV should clarify if you’ve departed from a previous organisation or not, and you should specify your availability to start work. 💻 Explain why you have chosen contracting - adding a couple of lines in your personal statement explaining why you’ve chosen contracting can go a long way. Your reasons could include the variety of experience contracting offers, skill development, or networking opportunities. 🖥️ Summarise your skills and capabilities - Surprisingly, many CVs we see overlook this critical section. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬? You're probably aware that your technical knowledge is a key factor in interviews. But, an equally important (and often overlooked) is your ability to solve problems and sell solutions to clients. It's not just about knowing your stuff in your engineering discipline, it's about applying it in a practical, effective way. A wee bit of advice is to know your CV inside out, and pay special attention to those key projects, the ones where you had to think outside the box to come up with a clever solution. The STAR method (Situation, Task, Action & Result) is a handy framework to follow when discussing these projects. Doing this will allow you to paint a clear picture of how you've tackled problems in the past. If you can do it convincingly in the interview, you'll have them believing you can do the same in front of clients. So, think about your key achievements, make sure they align with your CV and be ready to articulate them during the interviews. Best of luck.

Today, I encountered yet another situation where a candidate's details were shared with a company without their consent. This practice is not only frustrating but deeply unprofessional. It places both the candidate and the client in a difficult position, undermining trust and the recruitment process. At CPI, we pride ourselves on performing thorough due diligence to ensure our candidates are clear on their representation before moving forward. In this particular case, my candidate explicitly asked the other agency not to progress their application through them but yet they have persisted and put both candidate and client in a very difficult situation as they'd been clear they wanted to continue with the agency that provided a comprehensive overview of the company, the position, and the client's requirements. While speed is important in our industry, compliance and process adherence are paramount. This scenario highlights the negative impact such actions can have—not only on candidates but also on clients who are simply looking to hire the best talent for their business.
