EVA England publishes EV Drivers’ Manifesto https://lnkd.in/ezidbxhv EVA England has launched a manifesto that identifies the areas it feels are essential to address as the uptake of electric vehicles grows. The EV Drivers’ Manifesto 2024 has been structured around the five key pillars: 1. Fairer charging costs 2. Liberate charging provision 3. Lower insurance premiums 4. Enforce accessibility standards 5. Democratise EV uptake and drive demand Despite hugely encouraging numbers in uptake, EV sales remain concentrated in higher income brackets, says EVA England. Targeted, cost-effective schemes should be implemented to enable lower-income households to take part in the green transition, for example by mandating salary sacrifice schemes, and offering highly targeted social leasing schemes and 0% loans already implemented in other countries. James Court, chief executive of EVA England, said: “This manifesto puts EV drivers themselves at the heart of future policy, and shows the way forward for the winner of the next general election. 92% of drivers are overwhelmingly satisfied with the EV experience, making the future of sustainable mobility such an exciting prospect. “The manifesto is a blueprint to maintaining this positive outlook, presenting solutions to ensuring our charging infrastructure continues to grow and meet all needs, and that EV costs allow the transition to be fair and equal. In the late 2000s I walked through a newly commissioned Cummins powertrain facility in China. Despite the incentives and obsession for battery powertrain development through the Chinese industry, never underestimate the value of those joint-ventures that shaped in the 2000s. Small capacity diesels aren’t a priority for Chinese OEMs. Therefore… Nobody thought the Chinese would deliver a turbodiesel engine to market, with class-leading power numbers. Chinese EV automakers take substantial time to clear bills - mostly to their suppliers. It looked like they over prioritised market share and pushed loads of ships filled up with newly produced vehicles. But in US they were met with prohibitive import tarrifs and in Europe they will stumble upon the Europian distrust to foreign (compex) goods. Elsewher, EVs are lacking unfrastructure and alot of time will pass untill those markets properly open. https://lnkd.in/dS7PVu3C

The UK's second-hand battery electric vehicle (BEV) market grew significantly by 71% in Q1, reaching a new market share high of 2.1%, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This growth makes BEVs the fastest-growing powertrain in the resale sector as more consumers are drawn to their cost-effectiveness and environmental advantages. EVA England has introduced its EV Drivers' Manifesto 2024, outlining the priorities that need attention to support the increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). The manifesto, developed through a series of workshops involving EV drivers, pinpoints the five essential areas for focus as the demand for EVs continues to expand: 1. Fairer charging costs. 2. Liberate charging provision. 3. Lower insurance premiums. 4. Enforce accessibility standards. 5. Democratise EV uptake and drive demand. James Court, CEO of EVA England, says: "This manifesto puts EV drivers themselves at the heart of future policy, and shows the way forward for the winner of the next general election. 92% of drivers are overwhelmingly satisfied with the EV experience, making the future of sustainable mobility such an exciting prospect." The National Technical Committee of Auto Standardization (SAC/TC114) is soliciting opinions on the recommended national standard Recovery of Traction Battery Used in Electric Vehicle — Echelon Use — Part 5: Battery Design Guide for Echelon Use (Draft for Comments). The deadline for submitting comments is set for 10 July, 2024. As new energy vehicles in the Chinese market gradually enter the retirement phase, retired batteries can still meet the requirements for various echelon (secondary) uses, such as in low-speed electric vehicles, as backup power source for telecommunication base stations, and in electrical energy storage. However, issues arise in these echelon uses because the design of power batteries originally did not consider end-of-life applications in terms of materials, structure, and interfaces. This results in challenges in disassembling retired batteries, barriers to their secondary use, or complex and costly processes, thus hindering the development of the secondary use industry and leading to wastage of resources and energy. https://lnkd.in/gjhSVZYW

Why battery swapping may lose charge in Singapore's drive towards EVs? 🔋 There has been a lot of debate in the EV space on the charging infrastructure ⚡ for EVs - fast charging solutions vs. battery swapping. After MO Batteries Singapore Pte Ltd bowed out of the EV race in Singapore recently, this question became more important to address. There honestly isn't a one size fits all for each country and it depends on a number of factors, as my colleague Melissa Goh explained in this insightful piece.
