Our report examines data collection and visualisation tools in education across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia and highlights the key insights and gaps in the market and what support should be provided to fill these gaps. Recently, we've been focusing on how schools connected with the West Yorkshire National Centre for Computing Education Hub have used the 'I Belong' programme to increase students' belonging in computer science, particularly girls, and sharing their stories with other local teachers. How does one teacher attribute the increase in students wanting to study GCSE computer science in September, with over 30% of students being girls, when the national average last year was 19%? They're talking about successes from their curriculum with physical computing activities, engaging with computing ambassadors, and getting involved with student events and competitions to build supportive teams. The research literature defines students' sense of belonging in computer science in various ways. We've taken an example from Blaney and Stout (2017), who describe a sense of academic belonging as "the subjective feeling of fitting in and being included as a valued and legitimate member of an academic discipline" to think about showcasing student achievements in West Yorkshire. Based on this, we're looking to host a student symposium featuring individual and group achievements from students studying in local schools. An event featuring near-peer role models sharing their projects, experiences, and successes in computer science learning and activities. For example, one school with a group of Y13 students completing the Cyber EPQ from the Chartered Institute of Information Security for the first time shared the themes of projects with positive student feedback about their experiences last week. Not only have they committed to continuing the EPQ next year, but there's a strong narrative with the girls who have completed the qualification in this cohort. Interest from others in their topics and changes in personal choices for their next pathway into university study is favourable towards cyber and computer science, something their teacher is keen for younger students to hear from near-peers. Teachers will use many local activities as evidence towards their 'I Belong' school certificate, including attending the STEM Fest in Bradford in July, where students meet STEM Ambassadors and get involved in computing-related activities, and the Horizons Online Cyber Careers Event on 7 June organised by RTC North with Computing and Cyber Ambassadors. This article explores the foundational principles, effectiveness, and implementation strategies of MTSS in behavioral support, drawing from recent research and systematic reviews. Foundational Principles of MTSS MTSS is built upon several guiding principles that aim to enhance educational outcomes through prevention, behavioral support, and systems support. Sugai, Simonsen, and Freeman (2016) emphasize the importance of capacity development within MTSS, advocating for a proactive approach that focuses on preventing behavioral issues before they escalate. This preventative strategy is complemented by robust behavioral supports and systems that ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the MTSS framework.
