In the early days, our startup's teams barely talked. Marketing did its thing, sales did theirs, and never the twain did meet. This silence led to confusion, mixed messages, and missed shots. Then, we had an "aha" moment: we needed real talk and teamwork. By setting up regular catch-ups and shared spaces for updates, we broke down the walls. Suddenly, marketing's campaigns and sales' insights were in sync, driving us forward together. This shift wasn't just about better numbers; it was about building a culture where collaboration wasn't optional—it was the backbone of our success.

What are common mistakes that prevent sales and marketing alignment?
Back in the day, my startup struggled with something that seemed simple: passing leads from marketing to sales. Our marketing was on fire, generating tons of leads, but sales weren’t closing them as expected. It turned out, our lead qualification was like throwing darts in the dark, and the handoff to sales was basically a nod and a wink. This mismatch meant sales wasted time on cold leads while hot ones cooled off. The lesson? Tighten up lead qualification and create a solid handoff process. Once we did, it was like upgrading from a rickety bridge to a superhighway. Leads that made it to sales were ready to close, and our numbers started looking up. Fixing this not only improved our efficiency but also our morale.

Built a Booking System
The Studio managed their own booking system which in the end served around 100 callcenter agents at a time. The company needed to make sure that these agents at all times booked customers into specific time-slots thus spreading the bookings all over a week and not only to a week-end. The system itself forced this depending on multiple algorithms, calculations and combinations and in the end only showing a couple of specific dates and times to the Agent.

The system itself forced this depending on multiple algorithms, calculations and combinations and in the end only showing a couple of specific dates and times to the Agent.
This system also communicated with the end-customers through both email and SMS messages, both reminding them of the time they had booked and where to go - including some information about the visit they where about to have.
The system was operational between 2007 and 2013.
