I specialise in policy analysis, foresight and evaluation in the area of innovation and sustainable development. My focus is on public policies and innovations transforming the world towards the long-term sustainability.
I am policy and economic analyst at the Territorial Development Unit at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. I conduct research and provide policy support on fostering sustainable development in the design and implementation of regional innovation strategies and policies, notably in the context of Smart Specialisation.
Before joining the Commission I was Senior Research Associate at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources in London where I led policy research at the Inno4SD network and contributed to the Green Innovation Policy Commission. I was engaged in collaborations with the World Bank, UNCTAD and the European Commission (JRC) in the area of STI policy.
Before joining UCL ISR I led Green Economy team at Technopolis Group. I conducted studies commissioned by the EU institutions, international organisations (UNCTAD, UNIDO, OECD, DCED, ASEIC) as well as by the regional authorities in many countries (e.g. Poland, Italy, France, Turkey). I co-founded and had been a long-standing coordinator of the European Eco-Innovation Observatory, an integrated knowledge source on eco-innovation for policy-makers and business.
I hold a PhD in Planning from the University of Manchester (2015). I have a Master's degree in Regional Economic Planning (honours) from Warsaw University (2001) and a Master of Arts in European Public Affairs (honours) from University of Maastricht and EIPA (2000). I am a regular speaker and experienced facilitator at innovation and sustainability events.

The socio-cultural determinants of innovation
