HAL Bowman recently surveyed 5000+ people working within accounting and finance. We have included a brief summary of the results below: Salaries Surprisingly, we found that people working at smaller accounting firms (outside the Top 100) on average had higher salaries. Not so surprisingly, we found that people who changed jobs in the last 12 months had a larger increase in salary than people who did not change jobs. On this point, we would not recommend changing jobs purely based on salary however it is clear that there can be a financial incentive in doing so. Qualifications On average people who have post graduate qualifications (CA, CPA, CTA etc) earn between 10-20% more than people without qualifications with the same level of experience. Work From Home Based on your responses 81 % of businesses offer 1-3 days work from home, 9 % offer 100% remote and the remaining 10% offer no work from home. Work From Home and Training We asked, what effect you think work from home has on access to training and development, the results here were about 35% of respondents reporting it had no effect on the quality of training and the remaining 65% reporting that work from home had a negative impact on training. Work From Home and Professional Networks We asked, what effect you think work from home has on your ability to build professional relationships both internally and externally to the business, and the results were similar, with about 37% of respondents reporting it had no effect and the remaining 63% reporting it had a negative impact. If you could change / Improve one thing about your current work situation This was an open question, and we received some interesting responses: Salary - only a small %, circa 9% of people wanted more money; Work From Home - several people with 100% work from home wanted a job where they could go into an office; Workload / systems / timesheets - This was the most common area people wanted to improve; This is consistent with past surveys, the least common reason people will change jobs is for money, the most common is to improve the day to day. A Post Transaction Valuation Check (PTVC) can be requested from HMRC for an individual to work out a capital gains tax liability or for companies to calculate corporation tax liability on chargeable gains. The request for a PTVC should be made using the CG34 form. HMRC’s guidance says the form must be completed and sent to the address on the form at least three months before the relevant tax return filing date. #HMRCValuations #Tax

The Spring Budget 2024 announced an increase to the VAT threshold from £85,000 to £90,000, effective from 1st April 2024. This adjustment will exempt approximately 28,000 small businesses from paying VAT altogether.
