Salad challenge: make one WITHOUT lettuce, cucumber or tomato I've just set this challenge for one of my lovely clients, who has low stomach acid levels, which is affecting their ability to digest food and extract the nutrients from their meals. Lettuce isn't choc-full of nutrients, and a lettuce-free salad will require a LOT more chewing - the first step of digestion. Chewing more also helps your brain realise that you've eaten and supports the satiety response. Are you up for making a lettuce-free salad? What would you put in yours?

Study reveals that 29 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds in England vaped in May 2023, up from 9 per cent in May 2021! This increase, we’re told, coincided with the introduction of cheap, brightly coloured, and fruity-flavoured single-use e-cigarettes like Elf Bars. Yet that is to simplify the issue. Disposable vapes aren’t the real problem. Do you keep up to date with your Continued Professional Development? I was happy to immerse myself in a bit of training yesterday. I would like to say thank you to the The Food and Drink Federation and Ulrick & Short on their update on HFSS legislation. It helped to refresh my memory on how the HFSS score is calculated and they presented how it can be used to support reformulation. There was also interesting discussions on the complexity of providing guidance on how businesses operate their promotion in light of the HFSS legislation. 💥Exclusive for a limited time! That should increase the excitement levels but it is not what we want! Sure we celebrated our first listing in a Fuller's Brewery pub and it is a great venue in the middle of the city but there are over 400 Fullers pubs. Yet more challenges... 1️⃣ Get noticed on the back bar. Fullers are doing a great job labelling sustainable brands ✅️ 2️⃣ Get the bar staff on your side. 🤔 Need to do some work on that. 3️⃣ Engage and be creative. Create campaigns that shout about your "exclusive" partnership. 💡 ...and the reward? Sugar is a drug. A legal one, but just as addictive as the illegal ones. Did you know there are over 50 different ways of describing sugar on labels, and using multiple different names for sugar allows manufacturers to get round the rule that the biggest ingredient in a product needs to be first on the list. Have you ever seen a label with multiple ingredients ending in -ose? Those are all sugars. My challenge will set you on the way to breaking free from sugar, start to feel amazing and maybe lose a couple of pounds. Female Health through Nutrition & Wellbeing A session to discuss the role of nutrition in supporting female health. This talk will focus on 4 main hormones that can impact females at any age - oestrogen, insulin, cortisol and thyroid. And look at how these hormones can impact our performance in the gym, food cravings, weight gain, emotional wellbeing and day time energy. The talk will explain what can happen in your body to cause imbalance in these areas of wellbeing, and simple yet effective changes you can make to support your overall health. Nutrition is not about going on a diet, instead it is about understanding your own individual needs and creating a plan to support your body.

Having read and digested the recent Uk Spa Association 'snapshot of the industry' report, we are able to compare ourselves to the UK market and identify areas of opportunity. We are pleased to be included in a small bracket of facilities that are offering a wide variety of treatments and have all the facilities requested by the guests, including saunas, steam rooms, and spa pools. Looking ahead we are aware that improving standards amongst competition is important as according to the survey 36% of spas, post covid, have gone through refurbs and 60% are now looking into refurbs, we are continuously working with our clients to identify where investment programmes will offer a return on investment. Recruitment remains the most challenging area with 44% of spas currently having job vacancies. We are working hard with our sites to support this process, and alleviate the need for agency therapists; which 33% of Spas are having to use. 60% of Spas in the past 12months have seen revenue increase, which is a positive sign following the pandemic of a few years ago. We are delighted that our Spa sites are situated in that 60%, and aim to keep this improving year on year.
