How do you balance work and life as an entrepreneur?
Setting boundaries as an entrepreneur is vital, but breaking them is unavoidable. When you found a business, it will take over your life – and I honestly don’t think you can be a good entrepreneur without this being the case. In the early days, you’ll spend every waking moment thinking about your business, working on it and stressing over it because you’re probably at least 75% of the whole team. But even once you grow and your direct responsibilities shrink to just pure leadership…you can’t just take your hands off the wheel. And that’s okay. Set those boundaries and try to stick to them when you can, but when you get the itch to dive in at 3am, go for it. At the end of the day, this is what we were made to do, and it’s what fuels us.

How do you use storytelling to showcase the value of your product or service?
Storytelling is in everything we do. It’s why it’s so powerful as a tool, and why it speaks to us so viscerally. We process the events that happen in our lives as stories, it’s how we recall memories from our childhoods and years gone by. Learning to tell engaging stories will not only make you a better marketer, but it will make you better at communicating and connecting with people in all aspects of life. Whether it’s an ad campaign or entertaining guests over dinner, if you can grab and hold your audience's attention with a compelling build-up and payoff, you’re a storyteller – and people will listen.

How can you develop your emotional intelligence and resilience to handle toxic behaviors?
Patience is a virtue, but you don’t solve persistent toxic behaviour by letting it slide. If someone is disrespecting you or your team, it’s time to put your foot down. Stay calm and polite, but firmly make it clear that the way they’re behaving is unacceptable. For most people, this will be enough of a wake-up call – after all, most of us never want to intentionally hurt or stress others. If they continue, you’ve warned them and are well within your rights to take the issue up with management or, if you are the one in charge, take action yourself. Remember, we all make mistakes. But mistakes happen once. Don’t let people walk over your kindness.
