Mentoring the teams at the Syncthecity 54 hour, create a Startup business. So much hard work is put in to take a pitch idea and turn it into a business with a team you find from the pool of people.

This year about 110 people participated with 50% of them being Students.

Mentoring many of the teams along the way, the team I was aligned to Hector Help (Anti Bullying Support),
got the people's choice award. Very proud of them all.

There were plenty of other ideas in there from the wonderful "Strand" (fabric from human hair) to http://promptu.rocks/ (Musicians track Annotations)

Born out of the success enjoyed by the team at the 2014 Sync the City 54 hour start-up event, OurLib is a not for profit project that aims to increase footfall and interest in the UK's library service through innovative digital products.

Our aim is to bring the library service into the 21st century, with a variety of products that appeal to an increasingly tech-savvy generation, and that aim to make the library a more interactive, relevant and engaging experience for its users.

The library service is currently facing cuts in public funding, and both footfall and public engagement are directly linked to the funding that libraries receive. It it our hope that our products will continue to evolve and help to attract more people to the library, which is key in making sure that these valuable services survive.

Working as a small and agile team, we have taken the products developed at Sync the City and have continued to refine them. We now have two Beta release products in the market and are currently working to promote them through public talks and with the cooperation of our local library service.

Currently available is a Chrome extension that informs the user of the nearest library to them carrying a book that they are viewing on one of three currently supported online bookstores (WHSmith, Waterstones and Amazon), and the other is an Android app that allows people shopping in stores to find the nearest library carry a book they are interested in, while also allowing them to store their library card on their device.

So far, my involvement in the enterprise has largely been concerned with the design and development of the Chrome extension but I also like to involve myself in the business side of things and the development of the back-end server that supports both the app and the extension.

Our products can be found through our website or by searching for 'ourlib' on either the Google Play store or the Chrome web store.

We built two applications (Web and Mobile), one platform (Node.js) and a business model to support the venture going forward.

Absolutely astonished that we won as the driver for the team was to have fun in delivering what the pitch required.

MyLib was created to increase the footfall into libraries as well as increase engagement with both the library customers and the wider community.
