With the upcoming long bank holiday weekend approaching, many of us will be enjoying delicious meals prepared by friends and family. But amidst the festivities, it's important to consider the potential risks of harmful bacteria lurking in our kitchens. Ipsos UK recently conducted a survey to explore Brits' habits and beliefs around food hygiene. Shockingly, 4 in 10 people admitted to using the same tea towel for multiple purposes, neglecting the advice of the Food Standards Agency. Other concerning practices include checking phones while cooking (36%) and storing leftover food in open containers in the fridge (19%). Despite the FSA warning about the dangers of slowly chilling food, 6 in 10 respondents believed it was safer to let food cool to room temperature before refrigerating it. The survey also uncovered misconceptions about freezing food, eating food off the floor, and washing chicken before cooking. Ipsos researcher Federica Curcurú highlighted the disconnect between knowledge and actions when it comes to food hygiene. While most may get away with these habits, the reality is that over 2.4 million cases of food poisoning occur in the UK each year according to the FSA. The survey serves as a reminder of the importance of debunking common myths and practicing good food hygiene. Only 31% of Britons always or frequently wash raw chicken before cooking, indicating a need for better education around food safety. #FoodHygiene #Foodies #Easter #FoodSafety

It's been a busy week! What started as a bit of personal curiosity turned into a full blown analysis of voter and party search interest, culminating in a geo-mapped constituency-level prediction of today's results. So many interesting points. From the breadth of reach across economically disenfranchised audiences for Reform (it's the economy, stupid - not immigration!), through to the 1200% uplift in tactical voting search as Best For Britain released their guide to getting the Tories out (and blocking Reform). Not everything made the final edit, but hopefully you find the below as interesting to read as I did to research. So. 217 seat Labour majority is my prediction. Let's see how far off we end up!

What happens when retail media overtakes TV advertising? Last week, George Nott at The Grocer published a really comprehensive article on the current state of Retail Media in the UK. Here's some of the highlights: - Supermarkets have long worked with brands on ‘shopper marketing’, and since the launch of loyalty schemes in the 1990s have been sharing data insights. So, if that's the case, where is retail media up to in its evolution? According to Nick Ashley of Tesco Media & Insights Platform, retail media is only now “coming of age“ - it’s not the toddler some talk about. But it’s not an adult yet either - it's in its teenage years. I like this way of thinking about it. - Retail media innovation is at its fastest pace yet & this is presenting challenges and opportunities for advertisers, and their agencies. To assess each, Marketing Directors should be making sure they have a retail media measurement strategy in place, to compare activations across platforms consistently and quickly to allow them to redirect investment to the most effective places. It’s a good time now to be intentional about experimentation. - The IAB is working towards standardised metrics to enable “consistent comparisons” across retail media investments for buyers, initially covering online media but eventually in-store. Tools are emerging, too, to help advertisers assess retail media opportunities – among them Plan-Apps, which is used by the likes of PepsiCo, Diageo, AB InBev, Mondelez and CCEP. - Retail Media is sparking a wave of creative collaboration. Supermarkets are open-eared to ambitious campaigns. As Matt McLellan, Asda VP customer planning & propositions, leading its new LS Eleven Media Services, told suppliers recently: “If you’re a brand that wants to do something different, we are really up for it.” Some brilliant industry voices featured across the article, which you can find below.
