  • Our Food Our Future: eat better, waste less, share more

    Urbane

Of all the wicked problems humanity has created food is probably the most pressing. It is how most of the planet will experience the effects of climate change - crop failures and food shortages. We need to increase food production by about 60% in the next 20 years if we are to have any hope of feeding the 9.5 billion people that will be living on the planet. Food wastage is currently running at 40% of all food produced so fixing this will be part of the answer. Our book explores all the other…

  • Crowdocracy: the end of politics

    Urbane

There is substantial evidence to suggest that democracy is past its sell by date. The failure of democratic process is what is driving the global disenfranchisement with politics, political process and also underpins the polarisation of political opinion in society. But are we stuck with this "least worst" system of democracy? We argue that there is an alternative and versions of this alternative have already emerged around the world. The alternative is Crowdocracy. This is based on the idea…

This is based on the idea that none of us are as smart as all of us. Normally the crowd goes one of two ways - it either it becomes the dumb mob and poor decisions are made or occasionally the crowd becomes wise and a much better decision is made. We discuss how to ensure the crowd always becomes wise. We explain how the wisdom of crowds would transform complex systems such as government or big business and potentially put an end to the worst excesses and divisiveness of politics.

  • Wicked and Wise: how to solve the world's toughest problems

    Urbane

At a time when everything is changing very rapidly there are some issues that seem intractable and we hear the same old stories about these issues year after year. These are 'wicked' issues. Not wicked in the sense that they are evil but wicked in the sense that they are beyond complicated. We explore what makes these issues wicked and more important how we could solve them if we applied wisdom to these issues. This first book in the series offers a template that if we apply to any wicked issue…

  • Coherence: the secret science of brilliant leadership

    Kogan Page

This book explores the biological basis of leadership and provides a lot of practical guidance on how we can all be "brilliant every day". This starts with learning to control our own physiology, then our emotional state which creates a foundation for being able to change how we feel on demand to make sure we are always in the appropriate state for the situation. This ultimately gives us much greater control over the quality and content of our own consciousness which itself gives us more choice…

  • Mind Body Medicine

Psychoneuroimmunology or mind-body medicine is an exploding area of interest in the USA and is becoming of increasing interest worldwide. New and exciting research from both these fields shows that perceptions and emotions directly affect immunity and health. This book assesses the research in this area and assesses the implications of PNI and its application to general medical practice. It looks at the evidence supporting the concept that mind-body connections have an impact on the development…

New and exciting research from both these fields shows that perceptions and emotions directly affect immunity and health. This book assesses the research in this area and assesses the implications of PNI and its application to general medical practice. It looks at the evidence supporting the concept that mind-body connections have an impact on the development and progressof illness, and at how health care providers can take advantage of this evidence to improve the well-being of their patients. This is a practical text and reference which gives a good general introduction to the concept of mind-body medicine as it has developed to date.

In business, sport and many other walks of life people are addicted to 'DOING'. We live with long 'to do' list, and feel like we haven't achieved if we haven't ticked off all our tasks and reached our targets. We forget that we are Human Beings not Human Doings. In business, sport and many other walks of life people are addicted to 'DOING'. We live with long 'to do' list, and feel like we haven't achieved if we haven't ticked off all our tasks and reached our targets. We forget that we are Human Beings not Human Doings. Leadership starts with our interior and who we are. Focusing on how we are 'being' is a completely different to focusing on what we are 'doing'. They are two completely different dimensions. We also exist in a third dimension, namely the interpersonal or 'relating' dimension. So in every moment of our lives we exist in these three dimensions: being, relating and doing or what we call "I", "WE" and "IT". The fourth dimension is the sophistication or 'vertical altitude' we have in each of these three dimensions. This book explains how to develop in 4D and why this is the ultimate competitive advantage.
