ACQUISITION NEWS: AFC Industries has acquired Birmingham UK based distributor Forward Industrial Products (Forward Industrial Products Group) through its TFC Business Unit. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Forward Industrial Products Group Ltd is an industry leading supplier of C Class components, vendor managed inventory services and MRO services, with a focus on enhancing the productivity and effectiveness of its customers’ manufacturing operations. Forward provides a range of value-added services as well as both standard and custom items and engineered products. Birmingham-based Bracebridge Corporate Finance was the sole advisor to Forward for the transaction. We’re really pleased to be part of AFC and the growing TFC group. The partnership is a perfect fit for Forward Industrial," said Martyn Cleaver, Managing Director of Forward. What an inspiring story the Heatrod Elements Ltd journey has been over the past 10 years... It was great to visit Heatrod last week with one of The Manufacturers' Alliance peer groups, and see how they have approached their strategic acquisitions to expand the Heatrod Industrial group to quadruple the size of the business over less than 10 years. To deliver this kind of growth and change continues to be a team effort at Heatrod. We got the opportunity to see... 💡 how they have acquired and grown the UK market within the group. 💡 the strategy deployment tools the business are utilising to manage improvements and change. 💡 how they have managed the integration of new acquisitions and managing culture. 💡 the complexity of manufacturing elements in the UK, and the effort and technical capability required to produce quality elements consistently. 💡 the positive impact recruiting apprentices has had on the business. Heatrod have recently celebrated their 60th anniversary, and are very much a local employer that wants to look after the people they employ. They have a good balance between young energetic people coming up through the ranks, and more mature leaders with the depth a breadth of experience. In the automotive supply chain, and many others, the trend for increased cost pressure combined with rising demand for improved quality cannot be ignored. So, it's great to see Wayne Matthews giving his thoughts in British Plastics & Rubber on this trend and why the automotive supply chain needs suppliers that focus on adding value.   In the insightful article, Wayne argues that close collaboration and teamwork between OEMs and suppliers are often the missing links in many projects, limiting the value that can be delivered. He states that adding value needs to be an end-to-end process starting at the design stage. This involves understanding needs, challenges, and expectations, engaging in co-design and co-development, and continuing after the project is complete. I am excited to be talking about advanced manufacturing at the Bessemer Society event next Wednesday (24th April) in Sheffield. Advanced manufacturing is close to my heart, but also of vital importance to the UK. Manufacturing is export lead and one of the more productive sectors in the UK economy. Continuing to provide good quality healthcare, pensions and social security in a country with an aging population , means that the smaller fraction people in work need to be much more productive. Finance and other service industries are great, but are largely concentrated in the South East. Manufacturing is much more evenly spread across the country. Which is why is great to be holding this meeting in Sheffield. #advancedmanufacturing #levelingup #productivity #agingpopulation

Important we keep a balance across our economy and these figures show just how pivotal manufacturing still is to our economy overall, with the sector employing 7.3M people. 🕴️UK Manufacturing supports 7.3M Jobs and 23% of our entire GDP 👨‍🔬`Making things` accounts for 34% of all UK exports 💷 Median wage in manufacturing is 11% above national average Its great to see companies reshoring work and as a result the sector supporting more and more jobs.
