How can mentoring help you innovate?
Diversity is often such a key driver of innovation which is why I am a massive fan of co-mentoring. A co-mentoring relationship often entails a senior leaders mentoring people who are very different to them so they can get a far better understanding of the lived experience of younger and often, historically marginalised employees. At the same time that senior leader is able to share their own experience and knowledge to help accelerate the career of that more junior employee. Some organisations call this reverse mentoring but I am not a fan of that as a description as it suggests all the value flows from the junior person to the senior person and I believe the benefits from the relationship must to be mutual.
