We talk a lot in recruitment about the importance of building a strong pipeline. It's very important to have enough good on-going processes that will lead to success. Without building and maintaining a high quality pipeline you are reliant on luck, and most successful recruiters are not just lucky recruiters. Lawyers need strong work pipelines too, and the best people I have seen in both the recruitment and legal industries are relentless at what they do; they build relationships and grow their pipelines every day. When success happens, it's not luck.

At its worse, "if" seeks to shift the blame, effectively saying: "I'm sorry if you're so tightly wound that you can't see your reaction is overblown." That's an ifpology. Instead of wondering if you have hurt someone why not just ask them instead... Ifpologies are not good Now, let's look at the Butpology Starting with I'm sorry but.... you see this is classic not accepting responsibility and it's not a good sorry " For example, if you say, "I'm sorry, but I was having a miserable morning," the other person could wonder if you'll repeat your behaviour when you have another bad day. Another classic form of a "butpology" that attempts to excuse wrongdoing is, "I'm sorry, but I didn't mean it." oh then guess what? There's the 4 R's of apology 😳 Recognition Responsibility Remorse Redress Bloody hell, can't it just be enough to say sorry in any form 🤷🏼‍♀️ Sorry is, is sorry does.....it's all about the actions!

All of this is through me delegating and putting processes in place in readiness to go away. Yes I’ll still be keeping an eye on things but I won’t be doing the day to day. So what caused the SRA warning notice regarding shortages this week..? Out of the blue, words like “sacrosanct” were thrown around like literary missiles! And the already entirely understood notion of shortages on client accounts being made whole as soon as they are spotted reinforced or maybe even renewed in no uncertain terms… But why now? Linkedin needs a "fact check" button. 💡 Some outlandish claims made by businesses. Just read one business who claim to be the only 5 star rated education recruitment agency in the UK. Which is funny, because we're rated 5 star, and I know at least another 5 businesses that can state that claim again. Same applies to some of these "stories" people share. Maybe we just need a "prove it" button, and if it's not done within 24 hours it stays up but with a 💩 emoji next to it. That way everyone knows you talk b*llocks.

I think these are the 3 MOST basic questions to ask yourself when building a BD Plan... 1️⃣ Who do I WANT to work with? 2️⃣ Why? 3️⃣ How can I add value / help? Seemingly obvious questions that get overlooked far too much in favour of a scatter gun approach. Sure it can yield short term results, but the route to having a portolfio of genuinely good clients will be far slower for not channelling your energies earlier on. Start with the end in mind. Applying for ILR with a Skilled Worker visa? Tick these off your list: 1️⃣ Employer's Letter Essential. It should detail your role, confirm your salary hits the 'going rate' or above, and offer a rundown of any time you've spent away, work-related or not. 2️⃣ Count Your Absences There is a 180-day limit outside the UK in any 12-month period. I Feel The Need, The Neeeeeed For Speed.......Limit. 🛑 Big news to talk about, the EU will be introducing new laws from the end of this week on any new cars sold in the EU from July 7th will require to have an ISA. Not to be confused with an independent savings account 🏦 , ISA stands for Intelligent Speed Assistance. Essentially the ISA will use GPS to track speed limits during a journey and will automatically stop the cars from going faster inside certain speed limit zones. 🚗 So why is this being introduced? Well according to the European Transport Safety Council, the data shows that this technology can reduce road traffic accident deaths by 20%. 🏥 Also being enforced in the UK, many auto manufacturers such as Vauxhall Motors Ltd and Kia Europe have already committed to permanently enabling this technology in new car sales in the UK. So what does this mean for the automotive industry? ❓ Well for one thing, it will make the roads safer, but in the bigger picture, this will help the acceleration of Autonomous Vehicles on the road, especially in the UK. As essentially, Autonomous vehicles use the same technology, with the addition of Radar and LiDAR to add to the safety aspect. Motivation can be elusive at times. When you run a business if you don’t have motivation for what you’re doing you should stop! But, when you are that business owner, there is more than just keeping yourself motivated. Anybody you employ has to buy into what you are looking to achieve. That is so important to me. I can train people I bring into my company but I want them to see the bigger picture. Providing an environment to learn and contribute means moving the individual and the business forward together. The earnings potential for any recruiter is down to that particular individual. But empower them with the things I’ve mentioned here and they are likely to not only achieve their individual objectives but also the business objectives. Beware of the lowball offer It may seem tempting to offer less than someone's salary expectations but this usually has a detrimental effect. If you offer less, you run the very real risk of putting someone on the backfoot, as straight away they start to question how committed you are to having them join you and actually do you really properly value them at all? It's good to be financially astute but not at the cost of losing someone who is the perfect fit for your team.
