📣 I’m starting to recruit my next cohorts for Finding Product-Market Fit and Building Mission-Led Teams and I’m offering 10% early bird discount if you sign up before the end of August. 💸 These are two cohort programmes designed for changemakers creating transformative learning experiences. 🧩 Finding PMF is about how to build a learning product that people want and is viable and feasible. Starts 7 October. 🌟 Building Mission-Led Teams is about how to align, design and empower a team to do that. Starts 23 September. The programmes include self-paced learning, a weekly workshop with a small cohort of peers to explore how to apply the concepts and methods in a supportive safe space and 1:1 coaching with me. People seem to love these programmes, experience some real ah-ha! moments and ooze confidence about tackling their goal when they’ve done them. Here’s a recent post from Anna Bowers on LinkedIn: “This was such a brilliant course - thoughtfully curated and relevant learning material, considerately paced, and a genuine feel of community being built amongst the cohort. Whether you're scaling fast, wanting to try something new where you are, or you want to expand your network of thoughts and ideas, highly recommend.” Thanks Anna! 👇 Links in the comments to find out more. ♼ I find my cohorts by word of mouth so please spread the word if you know anyone that would benefit!

Let’s talk about product (Product?) because I am having the same client conversation again and again. First, let me put on my Product Owner hat 🎩 Working with Founders I hear you obsessing about the customer. Great news! Especially for an old hand like me who’s built plenty of Products where the business was the loudest voice in the room. 📣 But… Your company is a business. Your Product process needs to serve both your customers and your business goals. How? 📈 Data is the new oil. Want an AI advantage or a converting CRM or external investment? You need numbers. 🧱 Simplicity scales but an MVP backend is a future headache. Design a system that works for future you. 💔 Trust is the new oil… hang on, did I say that already? Error handling prevents Product issues from becoming business issues. Ready to get your Product business ready?

I got into tech in the '90s because I wanted a great job and travel the world. At the time, I had no idea that someone like me (female + working class) were underrepresented in tech. Not much has changed regarding representation. The latest UK diversity in tech report found that only 21% of senior tech leaders are women, and 9% are from a lower socioeconomic background. 😱 ➡ https://lnkd.in/ebkB7d6p ❤️ Thanks to Tech Talent Charter for inviting me to write a guest blog about why #DEI belongs at the heart of #digitaltransformation.

A bit late to the party here, but Future Founders Network launched last week! Here's the update: We launched on Circle on Monday last. Engagement so far has been brilliant, really great discussions happening for example how to judge and strategise the building of founding teams. 4 Interviews have been recorded and published in our resource space, these are; - Running a Successful Kickstarter with Amit Moshe - Changes in behaviour and mindset of a second time Founder with James C. - Shit you don't wanna do in Ad-mon with Patrick McSteen - Things that get missed in Business and People Operations with Phil Foxton New discussions/Interviews are being uploaded every week! The Forged Investor Collective is also now live, this is a group of investors affiliated with the community who get to receive first pitches from our members once they ready to raise, and this initiative is only growing. We also have officially signed two brand new Partnerships! - BOARDIO: For our members to find the right Advisors and Board members for their business and the stage they are at. - Innovation Manager: For our members to efficiently secure public funding and to aid in the private/equity fund raising rounds that follow. FFN Community members can now enjoy exclusive rates with our partners only available through us. We are also now in talks to bring two brand new partnerships to the table which I'll update on soon Coming this next week is: - 2 x New Interviews that I will post about soon! - Updates to the resources bank with legal/HR document templates (NDA/Shareholders agreements/employment contracts) For anyone that doesn't know - Future Founders Network is a community of aspiring and existing founders in games and games tech who all are trying to build successful and sustainable businesses in the industry and all share the community ethos that: - Everyone has something to learn, - Everyone has something to teach, - The tide rises all ships So if you are building a business in games and want a supportive community of people on the same journey around you then get in touch to find out how you can get involved. 10 new members join us on July 8th - will you be one of them?

As companies grow, common tensions emerge. Kahoot!’s founders We Are Human have developed a set of methods to help teams align. 🛤️ This issue is particularly true in purpose-driven companies working on tackling problems around education, climate or society. Jamie Brooker talked to me about the tensions they see and how they help tackle them. Many of these tension are universal. Here’s themes they regularly see: 1. Growth vs mission alignment 2. Stakeholder expectations vs long term goals 3. Short term pressures vs long term goals 4. Resource allocation 5. Innovation vs accessibility 6. Founder and leadership misalignment 7. Roles, responsibilities and rewards Left unaddressed, these tensions can dramatically impact whether or not the company succeeds. To avoid these problems, We Are Human suggests that you need to: 🕵️ Identify the tensions that exist. How they impact the short and long term. The underlying causes and effects. Interpersonal, operational, ecosystemic and strategic. 🤝 Align the founders and leaders. Unlock personal drivers. Reaffirm the mission and vision. Prioritise impact and profit. Endeavour to prevent adverse impact. 📈 Align all stakeholders. Communicate win/win outcomes in easy to understand formats that are measurable by all stakeholders. To find out more about We Are Human’s Alignment Method, check out the full interview. Link in the comments. 👇 “Alignment always starts in here,” says Jamie, pointing at his chest. “You've got to figure it out, in your heart and in your head. And you’ve got to make sure those people immediately around you are aligned and in sync.” ♼ Like this? Comment, like, repost.

Last week, I got to do a little workshop facilitation with Impactic Volunteers supporting skilled volunteers from Efficio colleagues, to help the gynaecological cancer charity Grace - https://lnkd.in/edjc-aNR - with three challenges. ⭐️ Stats for Storytelling ➡️ Compiling a range of shocking stats on gynae cancers - highlighting how vital GRACE’s work is ⭐️ Gap Analysis ➡️ Analysing other cancer charities in surrounding areas to understand service gaps that GRACE could fill - local women should be able to access local support! ⭐️ Marketing Pack ➡️ Creating collateral for the upcoming Gynae Cancer Awareness Month (September), with impactful graphics and catchy slogans to help remove the stigma of talking about gynae cancers Matching charity needs with volunteers with the time *and* the skills they need is such a solid idea - kudos to Molly Bevan to makling it happen - she's the person to get in touch with for more information - info@impacticvolunteers.com - or to ask if Impactic can help your charity. (That's me listening to Sara Willcocks from Grace tell the story in a super-quick Discovery exercise.)

Social reflection and storytelling builds on Paul Matthews excellent concept of the Learning Stack which outlines five levels of reflection 🧠 🗣️ 📈 When we reflect with an audience in mind, or take it one step further and codify what we’ve learned in order to teach it, we deepen our learning. This is incredibly powerful and reaching these higher levels of reflection mean learning is more likely to stick and transfer into behaviour change. I love how transformative this process is for people and it’s always a wonderful experience to see it in action with StoryTagger. Reflecting digitally on video means you also have re-purposable assets to scale and extend impact. #LearningTransfer #BehaviourChange #SocialReflection

With huge growth in the UK I've been pondering "The ROI of Joining an Incubator or Accelerator" - then I found this article, which was interesting read. Highlights? (I know you're busy scrolling...) 🚀 Accelerated start-ups are 3.4% more likely to raise VC and securing $1.8 million more on average 👩🚀 Program design elements, such as industry-specific cohorts and structured educational programming, further enhance outcomes ⛳ Incubated founders reported a well-being score of 4.34, compared to 3.99 for non-incubated startups 🏹 Use of emoji's makes linkedin posts 7% more jazzy If you're in a programme or been through one, does it ring true? Would you agree? 🤷♂️ https://lnkd.in/ek4JCTSe

Are you wondering where to start with strategy execution? In my work with some of the UK's top CEOs, I've witnessed first-hand the challenge of achieving full team alignment and accelerating organisational progress. Getting everyone on the same page and working hard on the right things to move forward at a pace sounds great, but many often don’t know where to start! To address this challenge, I've created an insightful video explaining the top three things to consider when creating a robust strategy execution engine in your business. Please let me know in the comments if you found this useful. #strategyexecution #leadership #productivity #businessgrowth

🚀 I’m launching a brand new course: Building Mission-Led Teams. And I’m looking for a founding cohort to build it with! My current programme, Finding Product-Market Fit, is about the Product. This one is all about the People. Scaling a team from a few to many is hard. And when I did it, there wasn’t much support. 👉 Here’s what we’ll cover over 5 weeks: 1. Why a mission-led operating model and cross-functional approach will deliver better outcomes and a happier team 2. How to align and inspire your team 3. How to design and grow the team 4. How to empower and coach the team 5. Your plan to put it into practice 🧑💻 The format will follow same successful formula: - Self-paced learning and playbook: concepts, methods and case studies - Weekly online workshops with a small cohort to apply to your context - Peer mentoring intros to help build your support network - 60 mins of 1:1 coaching with me - 1 year’s access to the EdTech Fellowship community 💸 Since this is a Beta, I’m offering it at a special price: £695 (or £495 if you’re self-funding or non-profit). 🗓 Apply by 25 May! Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/ga366gCB ♼ Please share with folks you think would benefit. #buildingteams #missionled #productoperatingmodel #crossfunctionalteams

Key takeaways from our talk on ‘How to set up a Co-Founder partnership’: - A Co-Founder partnership is like a marriage, and it needs the same consideration - There’s lots of work to do to understand exactly who you’re looking for. We often don’t think it through in nearly enough detail - It’s not awkward or rude to heavily assess your potential fit, it’s a sign of long term commitment to building a successful partnership - It takes a level of self awareness and maturity to share your deeper character traits and areas of development. You’re assessing yourself in this process too - Use Agile Partnerships and conditional shares to manage partner expectations and commitments - This isn’t a tick box exercise. Building and nurturing a strong partnership is an ongoing commitment that can make or break your business LOVED having this conversation with Amber N. 🌱 Vestd and thanks to everyone who joined. I created a resource, ‘What to consider when choosing a Co-Founder’ with info and exercises on the above. DM me and I’ll share it 😊 (yep, it’s free). What’s your experience of setting up your Co-Founder partnership? #cofounders #businesspartners #cofoundercoaching #businesspartnercoaching #startup

For a while I’ve had a suspicion that product people make the best leaders. After all, this is where the progress happens! ✨ So I was very excited this morning to be joined by a whole room of product minded people at my Putting the Proof into POC roundtable. Some are testing new services, some exploring new markets & others taking on whole new ventures. 🤩 All have a concept to prove. 🤔 All have a belief that it might be possible. 💪 And all bring the courage to embrace the unknowns. From music events & mental health to sustainable travel & fusion energy, all these projects involve people, problems & technology. I wondered if we may find some common approaches but also discovered the many layers to solving a problem. Each person brought a slightly different lens based on their personal experience & context. (An important reminder that there are many approaches to solving a brief!) Far from disparate, this felt cumulative & complimentary ☺️ So, for anyone wishing to embrace a little POC thinking, we collated our top tips on how to approach the unproven. How to make it measurable. How to navigate the unknown. And how to successfully learn & grow from this. Lots of layers to this across investment, methodology, culture, market & skills. Summarised as 10 points below, maybe view this as a mini manifesto for how you & your business can embrace, explore, prove & grow a new concept! ✴ Start with a clear vision of what success looks like. A Metrics Tree can help you connect KPIs to your North Star. ✴ Validate it! Does the market need it? Can you make it happen? Will it make money? ✴ Try Dollar Driven Discovery to find product market fit. ✴ Keep it creative. In the early stages look for UX ideation skills in your product owner. ✴ Explore the POC from different angles eg. technology, customer & the business. Be conscious not to let one angle skew it! ✴ Try holding a pre-mortem (far more helpful to tackle known blockers upfront!) It’s ok for your people not to have the answers on day one. ✴ Bring a layperson onboard & champion their thinking! ✴ Visualise the journey ahead & share this with contributors & stakeholders. Agree on your definition of go / no go. Can you see forks in the path? Pre-plan what happens next. Will this be sustainable?Remember it’s ok to change course on your journey. ✴ Build using RATs (riskiest assumption test) methodology to tackle your biggest blockers upfront. ✴ The 4 Ps are Person, Problem, Product & Promise. You can pivot each of these! Are you a product owner? Do you have any other tips for companies who are looking to grow or launch a new concept? Huge thanks to all for joining this morning. Time well spent! 💫 Alana Pearson 🚴♂️ Jon Waring Shaun Sawyer Nick Forsberg Daniel E. J. Kealey Richard Buck #proofinpoc #growwithpurpose #productteamsforthewin

Notes and lessons from this discussion on Resilence for Founders. Thanks to all who tuned in. - Resilience is not the same as strength / endurance, just as companies are not the same as businesses. All need to be build on best practice and strong foundations. This is not future science, it’s just not evenly distributed to all founders. - Both strength and resilence are vital for founders. - A little bit is natural, possibly genetic, most is learned. Physical, mental, elite performance and medical aspects are ideally combined in training and support programmes. - Resilience emerges from bouncing back from breaking point force - “post traumatic growth”. It will happen. Don’t be afraid. Definitely don’t be unprepared. Definitely, definitely don’t be alone. - Breaking points need not break you. Care and awareness of your self is the very first hygiene factor. - Breaking points need not be faced alone. Care from your own team, your family and agnostic advocates is key. - Irrecoverable failures are rare. Successes are great. Failures hurt. Successes after failures are even greater. And make for the most inspiring stories and humans. OMA Mind WellFounded Health Maya Ghosn Bichara Monika Holod

Solve, systemise and share... It's how I've operated every business I've had, including two franchises. It's where my strengths lie and also the strengths of the team I have around me at Bolt Angels. We operate in the same way for our investee companies JAAQ. and Cudo . The best way to tackle a complex problem? Simplify... Do you agree?
