    Social Services

The Big Lift (TBL) is a student-run volunteering organisation at The University of Technology Sydney. Founded on the philosophy of 'paying it forward' in 2010.

Each year TBL runs weekend volunteering trips as well as an Annual Tour during which they visit country towns that could use a little help. I participated in these, in particular on the trip to Berry. Here we focused on Landcare, planting trees and helping the locals clean up their local area.

    Economic Empowerment

Project Everest's purpose is to solve the world’s social issues using enterprise. Each year they send students from around the world to third world countries to look deep into local issues and to solve these using the design thinking method.

I participated in the Cambodian Energy Assessment venture where as, "the first on the ground" spend the month we spoke to locals conducting the Empathise stage of the design thinking process discovering many issues relating to this cause.

Participants undertake three intensive boot camps that cover the fundamental methodologies of Design Thinking and Lean Startup, amongst other tools. These processes go beyond just theory, as they’re applied throughout the semester to practical project work.

Through a mix of boot camps, agile stand ups, workshops and master classes, students are exposed to a variety of invaluable teachings which they can apply to their projects or take with them along their entrepreneurial journey.

The program runs every Autumn and Spring session for approximately eight weeks, with three intensive boot camps and all core learning completed during the Orientation and Preparation Week. Students must commit to weekly (three hour) stand up sessions with coaches, mentors and their teams.
