  • “Zoomable” Information Presentation for Managing & Prioritizing Patient Care (Conference Presentation)

Vision Plus 2015: Information+design=performance, International Institute for Information Design (iiid)

For individual patient care, Electronic Health Records (EHR) have become a critical tool: The ability for multiple clinicians to view a patient’s chart reduces the need to guess histories or consult multiple specialists, smooths transitions between care settings, and provides better care in emergency situations. Controlling the often overwhelming flow of information has become progressively more important. This paper investigates how a “Zoomable” UI information presentation can support…

Controlling the often overwhelming flow of information has become progressively more important. This paper investigates how a “Zoomable” UI information presentation can support healthcare providers by allowing critical information and alerts to be visible across patients cohorts, while allowing a drill down to specific data/observations.

  • Medication Alert Fatigue (Conference Presentation)

Vision Plus 2015: Information+design=performance, International Institute for Information Design (iiid)

Medication errors are a huge source of patient morbidity and mortality in advanced healthcare systems. The implementation within hospitals of Computerised ordering systems has been shown to both reduce medication mistakes and to reduce the overall cost of medication-based treatment. However, the effectiveness of these systems is significantly reduced by the phenomenon of Alert Fatigue.

  • Future Wellness: Healthcare and Well-being in a Changing World (Keynote)

Well-being 2016, BCU Conference, Birmingham UK

All across the world, healthcare is changing. Ageing populations are increasing demand. Improved—and more personalised—treatments are turning once-terminal illnesses into chronic conditions. Exploring funding and economics, technology, digital monitoring and care, and patient-centred design thinking approaches, we'll consider both what happens today and what could happen in the future though a holistic approach to healthcare, citizen-engagement, and well-being.

Projects

Project to develop a modern ground up implementation of a REXX interpreter and compiler, and experiments with language improvements. To implement REXX using the best language tools available today, including the LLVM Compiler Infrastructure. These tools will allow a REXX compiler to be produced supporting multiple backends (including 64 bit architectures).

One aspect of the project is to revisit the REXX language - what can be improved? And most importantly how can it be improved while keeping the essence of REXX:

to make programming easier than before

CREXX will be targeted to run on VM/370 (a nod to REXX's heritage) and it will also run on Linux, Windows, OSX, and z/Architecture.
