BRANDS DOING THE MOST ON SOCIALS RIGHT NOW 🚨: Last week I asked my community on Instagram for their favourite brands they’re loving on social at the moment - the ones who are able to stop their scroll. Over 400 responses later and I compiled the list of the most popular responses below whilst removing any self-nominations (thanks chatGPT) I then shared it to my stories and I have never had so many replies / responses / engagements / reactions to a story… perhaps ever. Not only that but daily DMs from people asking for me to re-share as they’d missed screenshotting. It seems like we’re all looking for some inspiration right now, and these brands seem like a strong place to start. This is why YouTube is outpacing TV with a growing (and younger) audience. The Sidemen launched a reality show – Inside - on their other channel @MoreSidemen and it’s already averaging 2M views per episode. No big marketing campaign beyond promoting it on their socials, no overblown production budgets, and no focus groups. They thought they could, and they did. And this isn’t unique amongst YouTubers. Creators today are making professionally produced content distributed relatively quickly, at low cost, and with built-in marketing machines (themselves). YouTubers will continue to show they’re at the forefront of creativity primarily because they’re not afraid to color outside the lines and changing things up if they need to on a dime. Today’s creators are sophisticated and adept storytellers who are used to experimenting through testing on various platforms, developing content with all sorts of fast-evolving technologies, studying how trends develop in real-time, and gathering data and feedback directly from their audiences to suit their tastes and needs. It's this adaptability that is the key to their creativity and edge over prior generations of creatives. This is what folks like Neil Mohan, Michelle Khare, and Adam Rose are talking about when they say YouTubers are at the forefront of award-winning content and should be getting recognition for it. Expect much more of this to come (and thankfully so!)

Quick announcement :  Excited to be back in action and … (drumroll)… starting a new job ! Where have I been?  I’ve been on a 12 month Baby gap year, learning the ropes and soaking up the moments that everyone said would fly by (which of course, they did!)  It’s been a steep learning curve, but continues to deliver the most satisfying ROI, love beyond measure. I recently commented on one of Martin Zarian's brilliant posts. Martin's post was about a new brand film from Samsung Electronics, created in response to Apple's 'Crushed' Film. One of the main comments Martin made was in relation to how Samsung were so easily and quickly able to craft a film in reaction to their competitors latest film. I seconded this in the comments of the post, saying that Samsung were able to do this because they know their core values, and they know how to communicate this to their customers in an impactful way. One of the comments I received in return was the perfect example of how brand films are able to work on us as viewers, without us realising. The reaction comment said "Didier..., this doesn't show anything about what they (Samsung) stand for... what do they stand for?". This is the beauty of this film. The best brand films don't consciously promote core values, rather they do it subconsciously. Samsung has 5 core values as a brand:  → People  → Excellence → change  → Integrity → Co-prosperity We can see in this film that they show the excellence of people through the woman's performance. 2/5 ticked off. Despite different (changed from the status quo) circumstances, the woman is still able to prosper in the environment and perform to her potential. 4/5. And finally, co-prosperity, a little more harder to communicate in this film... Prosperity comes from being prosperous, which can be linked to success. Co-prosperity is shared prosperity. In this scenario, we can see a hint of this. Samsung are sharing in the success of the woman. Whilst not communicated blatantly in the film, Samsung still communicate their core values in the film, in a subtle manner, that the subconscious brain picks up. This is the beauty of brand films. They engage a viewer in storyline, 'distracting' them from the 'advertisement', yet communicates the brand's message successfully in a subtle manner.

WHY YOU SHOULD STOP SELLING YOUR PRODUCT My first job was in a call centre for a huge telecoms company. Let’s call it Titish Belecom. Our team took inbound customer service calls, so everyone you spoke to had a question or a problem that needed solving. But we were actually a sales team in disguise. Sneaky McSneakface. Trouble is, I was a TERRIBLE salesman. Sales in our team was a numbers game. Get rid of the many non-sales ASAP, so you can get onto the next prospect. The best salespeople would do this any way they could. They’d lie, transfer you, pretend to get disconnected, or even just hang up - knowing when you called back it’d be someone else’s problem. The result? More sales, but awful experiences for everyone else. My philosophy was different. If you weren’t going to buy the product, I’d sell you the brand instead. Want me to test your broadband speed? No problem. Turn on your Caller ID? Happy to. Need me send you a phone book? (That was still a thing then - and consider it done.) I once spent an hour giving step-by-step instructions to a little old lady who couldn’t set up her new phone. My Manager on the other hand, wanted me to try and sell her broadband, even though she didn’t have a computer. I wasn’t always selling products, but I was always selling. The key to knowing when to do which, lies in empathising with your audience and understanding what question they’re asking. Because if your product isn’t the answer, maybe your brand is. Need a Copywriter who can empathise with your audience? Someone who can write ideas that stick, copy that’s slick and CTAs that click? Multi-million pound funding boost for home-grown video game developers More than £3 million of government funding has been awarded to emerging video game developers and start-up studios to help them scale their businesses and create the next British gaming hits. 22 rising star video game studios receive awards from UK Games Fund £3 million worth of grants to help companies get games in development ready for market Funding awarded as part of government plans to grow creative industries by £50bn by 2030 Grants of up to £150,000 from the UK Games Fund (UKGF) will help 22 high-potential games companies hire more staff, secure publishing deals and unlock more private investment. The funding has been awarded to companies across the UK including GLITCHERS, a Bafta-nominated studio that has used video games to teach children about money and help scientists fight dementia. Their grant will help them develop The Last Eden - a first-person game set in the rainforests of the Congo Basin where players can track wildlife guided by real-world experts.  Meanwhile Triangular Pixels, another Bafta-nominated studio known for their innovative virtual reality technology, will use their Content Fund grant to develop Unseen Diplomacy 2 - a VR spy game where players can turn their living rooms into real-life assault courses. As part of the Creative Industries Sector Vision launched last year, the government invested an extra £5 million in the UKGF to establish a new Content Fund - focused on getting UK games in development ready for market - taking total government investment in the UKGF between 2022 and 2025 to £13.4 million.  In 2023 the UK video game consumer market was worth £7.8 billion*, more than doubling its value since 2013. Some of the world’s best-selling video games have been made in the UK, including Tomb Raider, the Grand Theft Auto series, Little Big Planet and Lego: Star Wars.  Alongside the Content Fund, UKGF continues to award grants of up to £30,000 to upcoming video game developers and early-stage studios to help them turn their drawing board ideas into working prototype games and showcase these to investors. So, here’s a few key take-outs from various talks I managed to livestream throughout the day (including a morning team kick-off fuelled with tea & pastries with Laura Millar, Jack Tomkins and Joe Heywood and a wet drive home). 📣 “Don’t let the urgent drown out the important” Rory Sutherland ⏱️ Timing saving and efficiency is often used as a measure of success, but it removes the ambiguity, often at the expense of delivering on the real human need, e.g. people actually enjoy commuting and don’t necessarily want the quickest route. 🌟 Rituals are like habits, but the difference is rituals place emphasis on how we do things; they are meaningful moments. Leveraging this human behaviour can be really powerful when it comes to engaging customers and employees. 🧠 Manifestation is proven by science! Imagining an action and performing an action can activate the same neural pathways in our brain.
