Robert Kenward and I attended the EVCOM (Event & Visual Communication Association) Clarion Awards Ceremony 2024 last night. What a great award show, good to see some familiar names taking home awards, well done to everyone that was nominated and involved. The ceremony was DEI focused and the panel discussion on this topic was really educating. I can’t believe it is still a problem that people are not hired due to the background they come from. The events industry is a creative one and to maximise creativity and productivity your team simply cannot be all from the same background and walk of life. It sounds like we are improving as an industry but there is a lot more we can do. It is not just a leadership responsibility but a collective company one. The companies who create the best cultures are the ones that do best. The best cultures are ones that are inclusive of everyone. It was good to hear the thoughts and learn more on the subject from the topic specialists who spoke on the panel. Again big well done to everyone involved, and thanks to Claire Fennelow and the team for an amazing show.

What an incredible experience at the Fast Forward 15® event on Friday! As a young woman working within the Events Sector, I found it truly inspiring and motivating to hear everyone's stories, celebrate the achievements of the past year, and learn about what's to come for the next year of mentees. Jaz Ampaw-Farr’s talk was particularly impactful, resonating deeply with not only me but everyone in the room. As a young woman, I can admit that I am often hard on myself, a people pleaser who strives for perfection - but who am I trying to be 'perfect' for and what am I trying to achieve? (Not sure if I even know yet myself!) I have walked away from this event with a fire in my belly, eager to achieve all goals I set for myself both old and new. Hearing from so many talented individuals about how they managed to achieve their goals has fuelled this desire massively. On LinkedIn, we don't talk enough about the struggles people face, both personally and career-wise, when they’re searching for a sense of direction, it’s hard to know where to begin right?! But what Fast Forward 15 can offer event profs who can benefit from a little guidance — they absolutely deliver this support and go above and beyond anyone's expectations!
